Program description

Interior Design - 1-year Course

The Interior Design Academic Year offers students an in-depth and practical introduction to Italian design and the ‘Made in Italy’ concept. The program enables students to experiment and master the basic tools of design. Theoretical lessons are enhanced by creative workshops, portfolio building, project work, visits to firms, trade fairs and industrial events and seminars with industry professionals.

The Interior Design program is composed of two semesters: Interior and Spatial Design - Fall Semester (September to December) and Italian Contemporary Design and Trends - Spring Semester (February to May).

  • Interior and Spatial Design – Fall Semester enables participants to acquire the basic knowledge and skills used in the field of interior design. Together with lectures and workshop, students will have the chance to visit the main international fairs in Italy focused on architecture, interior design, materials and finishings like MADE (Architecture and Building Show) and Architecture@work in Milan and the SAIE (International Building Exhibition) in Bologna. Thanks to the theoretical knowledge and the basic technical and technological skills, students will be able to develop design projects connected with different interior design fields.
  • Italian Contemporary Design and Trends – Spring Semester is designed to offer a practical study of Italian design, revolving around a number of shows and fairs that exhibit the best of the Italian design system: the Salone del Mobile furniture show in Milan and the Design Week events. During this semester students will acquire the ability and the methods to analyze a specific collection of a brand; the analysis will be related with formal language, use of colors, materials and finishings. This will be the starting point to work on a proposal for a new collection for a “made in Italy” brand.
