Program description

Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry

The Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry has given me crosscutting, integrated training, and in-depth knowledge of the vast field of chemistry, including the industrial, pharmaceutical, environmental, and food sectors, and more. The hours we spent in the laboratory, using cutting-edge analytical equipment and techniques, have been a fundamental complement to the theory gained in acquiring the skills and the necessary confidence to join the labour market.

Objectives of the Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry

The Master provides specialization in solving analytical chemistry problems, with strong experimental and quality management components, to become both a professional and a researcher in this field.

The AQU, EUROMASTER and ASIIN accreditations certify that this Master's degree is the best option to obtain the necessary tools to completely handle/approach an analytical process with a broad mastery of the associated instrumental techniques.

Admission requirements

To gain admission to the Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry programme, you must have a Spanish university degree or another degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that grants admission to a university Master's Degree programme in that country.

Graduates can also gain admission from educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area without the need to have their degrees officially recognised, once IQS verifies that the students have obtained a level of education equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and that they are authorized to gain admission to postgraduate degrees in universities in their country of studies.

Gaining admission in this manner does not imply official recognition of a student’s previous degree, nor recognition for purposes other than enrolling in the Master's Degree programme.

Program content

The Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry consists of 90 ECTS credits, distributed across two semesters of 30 credits each plus a third semester of 30 credits intended to the Master Thesis.

The Master's programme is structured across five modules:

  1. Technological Module: aimed at expanding knowledge of the main analytical techniques, identification and structural characterisation, and the application of statistics to chemical analysis. This module includes an Analytical Technology Laboratory that offers practical, hands-on interaction with the content taught in the theoretical subjects.
  2. Management Module: knowledge of techniques for managing projects and laboratories in a company, and quality management and assurance.
  3. Specific Module: knowledge specific to the specialisation in Analytical Chemistry. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge of the main matters to which analytical processes are applied: food, pharmaceutical products, environmental samples, and industrial products.
  4. Electives Module: the objective of this is for students to be able to delve deeper into certain scientific aspects according to their personal interests. These consist of two subjects, which can come from the course catalogue for this Master's Degree as well as other university Master's Degrees.
  5. Master Thesis Module: individual research project in a research group, under the guidance of one of the Master's degree professors.
