Bachelor of Science in Computer & Information Technology

As a CIT graduate, you will become an integral part of tomorrow's Computer and Information Technology industry. Technical skills and professional leadership competencies continue to make our graduates distinctive and highly marketable in meeting the needs of employers today!

Admission requirements

To be eligible to apply for admission to IUPUI, you must either earn a diploma from an accredited high school OR pass a high school equivalency exam such as the GED test, the TASC test, or the HiSet exam.

If you are homeschooled or attend an alternative school, you must provide credentials that show equivalent levels of achievement and ability.

Beginning with 2021 terms, IUPUI is test-optional. This means you'll be able to decide whether or not to have the SAT or ACT reviewed as part of your admission.

Program content

The Computer and Information Technology (CIT) program offers a Purdue Bachelor of Science Degree. The degree is available with four concentrations:

  • Networking Systems: Design, configure, secure, and maintain IT networks
  • Information Security: Protect information assets of an organization
  • Web Development: Design, write, install, and maintain a variety of software applications for the web and mobile devices
  • Data Management: Design, implement, program, and maintain data and databases

Every student in CIT takes a common set of courses to provide a well-rounded understanding of all facets of IT. Students can specialize in one or more concentrations after the completion of their general IT coursework.

Upon completion of the BS degree, CIT students will have attained:

  • An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the program’s student outcomes and to the discipline.

  • An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.

  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.

  • An ability to use and apply current technical concepts and practices in the core information technologies.
  • An ability to identify and analyze user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, evaluation and administration of computer-based systems.
  • An ability to effectively integrate IT-based solutions into the user environment.
  • An understanding of best practices and standards and their application.
  • An ability to assist in the creation of an effective project plan.
