Program description

Study a European Master's in Renewable Energy in the Netherlands

Do you want to make a difference in realising energy transition from a technological perspective? The European Master in Renewable Energy teaches you about the latest developments in renewable and clean energy technology. You will become a renewable energy engineer with a fundamental understanding of different renewable energy technologies (like solar or wind energy) and the ability to implement these technologies in countries around the world. The programme has a clear international focus, not only
because of the international student community, but also because you follow the programme at different locations in Europe.

The rapid growth in renewable energy installations will only continue in the coming years. Within this expanding renewable energy industry, an urgent demand exists for engineers specialised in renewable energy technology. This is where you come in! With this master’s programme you acquire a solid foundation in key renewable energy technologies at Hanze UAS and specialise in a specific technology at a partner institute or at Hanze UAS. Specialisations are available in wind energy, photovoltaics, sustainable fuel systems for mobility, solar thermal energy, grid integration and ocean energy. Upon graduation, you will be able to design, test, and implement these technologies with a systemic and interdisciplinary approach, making you essential to the whole energy industry. This master’s programme is for students with a technical
background.

During the first or ‘core’ semester you acquire a solid foundation in key renewable energy technologies (wind, marine, solar, bioenergy). You will learn more about the technical and engineering side of energy system design and implementation. You will also focus on energy transport, distribution and storage. All these theoretical courses are supported by laboratory workshops. Hanze UAS is one of five European universities where you can follow this core semester.

In the second semester you choose a specialisation by one of six specialisation providers of the master’s programme. The specialisations focus on a particular technology or implementation aspect; i.e. Photovoltaics, Wind Energy, Grid Integration, Solar Thermal, Ocean Energy or Sustainable Fuel Systems for Mobility. During the specialisation, in-depth theoretical classes are accompanied by practical work in laboratories and technically oriented company visits.

During the final semester, you gain practical experience through a six-month thesis project undertaken in a company, research centre or university.
