Study a Bachelor's in Sensor Technology in the Netherlands

Even in places you do not expect. Sensor Technology is everywhere! The Electrical and Electronic Engineering - Sensor Technology bachelor's programme is offered at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen.

The Electrical and Electronic Engineering - Sensor Technology programme by the Institute of Engineering at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen specialises in sensor technology. The study programme revolves around the utilisation of existing sensors. 

During the bachelor's programme you can participate in applied research to apply sensors to develop and improve existing appliances, products and services.

This programme has been marked 'Top Rated Programme' by the Keuzegids HBO Voltijd for seven consecutive years.

Admission requirements

You are eligible for the programme if you have a diploma comparable to the Dutch HAVO level (for UK: 4 GCSEs, A*- C grade, plus 2 AS levels), or higher. Your qualifications at this level must include mathematics and physics and preferably chemistry and/or biology.

Students who possess an International Baccalaureate Diploma in the English language that includes examinations in Mathematics and Physics are eligible for admittance. It is strongly recommended, when possible, to complete Chemistry courses too.

As ST is an international programme, a comprehensive understanding of English is a must. For the study programme Sensor Technology, a minimum of an academic IELTS test with an overall band score of at least 6.0 (six) is required.

Tuition fees


  • EU/EEA students: around € 1,040*
  • Non-EU/EEA students: € 7,700 

* The tuition fee for the first year. For subsequent years, the annual amount is around €2,083. If you are an EU student starting a bachelor's program at Hanze UAS, Groningen in September 2018 and it is the first study program in higher education you apply for, you pay half of the tuition fee (for the first year only). For subsequent years, students pay the full statutory tuition fee.

Bachelor of Science

Continuing studies

Many of our graduates will be employed in areas where the emphasis is on creating new systems, and therefore will become Technical Designers. A smaller number of the graduates become Technical Advisors. There will also be graduates who may become Project Leaders or Academic Researchers. You may even use the entrepreneurial skills you have developed to set up your own company. 

After completing your bachelor's programme, you can also choose to continue studying and obtain a master's degree. The Institute for Engineering offers a number of international masters, of which Smart Systems Engineeringand theEuropean Master in Renewable Energyare suitable masters after the bachelor in Electrical Engineering - major Sensor Technology.
