The mission of the Center for the Study of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Culture is twofold: to strengthen the liberal arts undergraduate curriculum at Goucher College by providing language programs of broad scope and high quality; and to engage students in compelling transnational issues through the study of cultural texts produced by other countries.
Our faculty is international and interdisciplinary in its research and teaching, offering courses in areas as diverse as film, literature, culture, anthropology, theater, folklore, socio-linguistics, and ecology.
Goucher College is a four-year residential private liberal arts college. The selection process is highly individualized, and members of Goucher's Admissions Committee read every application, paying particular attention to personal qualities and intellectual promise. Admission is granted to the college for fall and spring semester. We accept the Common Application.
Goucher has adopted a test-optional program, where submitting scores for the SAT Reasoning Test and ACT with writing are optional when applying for admission. Although you may elect not to submit scores as part of the process of determining admission, please know that all admitted applicants who matriculate must furnish test scores for research and advising purposes.
Applicants whose first language is not English must submit either the TOEFL or IELTS exam. For the TOEFL, we require a score of 80 or higher with at least a 20 in each section. For the IELTS we require a score of 28 with no section score lower than 7.0.
