Pre-Study Fulda

Are you planning to study in Fulda but need a bit of extra preparation? The Fulda pre-study programme is a special introductory semester for international applicants to Fulda University.

It gives international students time to adjust to and learn about the German university system while learning German and making new friends, e.g. through the Buddy Programme. The programme combines language training with subject-specific academic courses in order to help international students embark on their degree programmes fully prepared for success.

Admission requirements

The following eligibility criteria apply:

  • Direct university entrance qualification: Students must be eligible for admission to university in Germany.
  • Academic qualification for your chosen degree programme: You should be qualified for admission to your chosen degree programme (certain gaps in specialised knowledge will be covered through Fulda Pre-Study).

Language Requirements

  • Beginners' course: No previous language skills required
  • B1 Course: German language skills at A2 level (CEFR)
  • B2 course: German language skills at B1 level (CEFR). This can be certified by:
    • B1 Goethe certificate
    • telc Deutsch B1 certificate
    • TestDaF with TDN 3 in at least one of the four sections
  • DSH course: German skills at B2 level (CEFR). This can be certified by:
    • B2 Goethe certificate
    • telc Deutsch B2 certificate
    • TestDaF with TDN 3 in all four sections
    • DSH 1

Program content

Beginners' course

You will acquire and practise basic reading, listening, writing and speaking skills. At the end of the course, you will be able to make yourself understood in familiar, everyday situations.

B2 course

At the start of the course, you will strengthen and expand your German skills in order to take an examination at level B2. This will allow you to start working with DSH material. Later on you will practise all four parts of a DSH exam: reading, hearing, text production and academic structures. Different learning and examination techniques will be introduced and you will be able practice them using past examination papers. Students are expected to take an active part in lessons and to revise study materials independently at home.

DSH course

Scholarships & funding

The two best participants will achieve 1-year scholarship of 300 € per month in their first study year at our University (preconditioned good/very good grades in first winter semester)

Program delivery

Course load:

  • Beginners' course (A1/A2): 25 hours per week
  • B1 course: 20 hours per week
  • B2 course: 25 hours per week
  • DSH course (C1): 21 hours per week

Tuition fees

Fees for Fulda Pre-Study

  • Fulda Pre-Study with B2: €750
  • Fulda Pre-Study with DSH course: €970
  • Fulda Pre-Study without a German course: €500
  • Fulda Pre-Study with German beginners' course: €880
  • Fulda Pre-Study with B1-course: €750

Additional Fees

  • An initial registration fee of €300 is due on admission.
  • Semester contribution of approximately €300 / each semester.

Qualification

Course Objectives:

Beginners' course:

At the end of the summer semester 2020, the course will finish with an examination at level A2. Advanced German courses at levels B1 and B2 will end with an official DSH examination towards the end of the summer semester 2021, provided that you pass an intermediate examination.

B1 course

At beginning of the winter semester 2020, the course will finish with an examination at level B1. Advanced courses at levels B2 and C1 will end with an official DSH examination towards the end of the summer semester 2021, provided that you pass an intermediate examination.

B2 course

A B2 examination is an integral part of the course. Passing this exam will allow participants to continue the Pre-study programme and take the official DSH examination at the end.

DSH course

The course will end with the official DSH examination.
