Friedensau Adventist University

Friedensau Adventist University (FAU) is a state-accredited church-run university. It owns the School of Social Sciences and the School of Theology, as well as the language institute for German/English and biblical languages. There are about ten scientific institutes in various research fields.

At FAU, studies take place in small study groups, with cultural diversity and international flair, on a campus where everything is pretty close. A modern library with more than 150,000 media offers a wide range of current specialist literature, reference works, and magazines as well as scientific databases. 200 students from more than 30 nations are currently studying here. Friedensau is located approx. 35 km east of Magdeburg and approx. 100 km west of Berlin and is pretty close to the highway A2.

Scholarships & funding

ADRA Scholarship

The ADRA Scholarship Program offers a selected number of prospective students from low or low-middle income countries the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in International Social Science. It provides prospective students who are already working in the field of development cooperation and/or humanitarian aid the opportunity to professionalize in the field of development studies. It especially addresses people working in Faith Based Organizations and local NGOs. ADRA offers one scholarship per year.

The scholarship will be used to reduce the tuition fee. The amount is €5000 and will be charged with the down payment. The scholarship holder is entitled to apply for any other available scholarships during the course of study.


To apply for these scholarships, prospective students must:

  • Be employed or have been employed by an NGO working in the field of development
  • cooperation or humanitarian aid
  • Submit an application for the Master Program of International Social Science (Development
  • Studies) at Friedensau Adventist University
  • Be motivated to work in the field of development cooperation or humanitarian aid after
  • completing the Master program

Aims of the Scholarship

The scholarship program aims to enable highly skilled and motivated students (mainly but not only from low and lower middle income countries) a study in the MA International Social Sciences program. Furthermore, the scholarships help to maintain and increase the diversity of the student body in this program.


To apply for this scholarship, prospective students must:

  • Be admitted to the M.A. International Social Science at Friedensau Adventist University
  • Have proven academic skills with a record of excellence and achievement
  • Be able to demonstrate that they are highly motivated to study and reflect on issues related to the field of development and humanitarian aid

Student services & facilities

Our Campus – As much as Friedensau Adventist University has to offer, our support structure is just as wide. Each area from the Social Sciences Department, Theology Department to our German Classes and Further Education Classes – there is always a Dean you can turn to for help, support and counsel. We are a campus community, which means you will always have someone to turn to for help. Let that be the Internship office to help you navigate practical trainings and internships or the Students Relations Office to answer any questions and support the needs of our students. We are here for you.

Additionally we also have our International Student Affairs Office, the contact point for all our international students. Here we support our international community, help find solutions for problems, give advice and are also just an open ear to listen.

Our University Sports – Our University Sports Club offers numerous sports opportunities – from soccer to gymnastics – for students and non-student members. Additionally we have an on-campus gymnasium, a fitness room, and floodlight soccer field, sports fields for volleyball, table tennis and tennis. Furthermore we also have an on-campus sauna in the student residence.

Our Library – Here you can find a large variety of resources, from scientific journals, to music sheets, films and entertainment literature. We even have a children’s reading corner for our youngest visitors. Special events at the library include public readings and interesting exhibitions.

Our Spiritual Life – Living and studying in Friedensau has a spiritual dimension as well. Through various offers such as small home-groups, Bible studies, church services, devotions, spiritual guidance and prayer groups we invite students, non-members and visitors to get involved and encounter God here at Friedensau. Student lifestyle

We at Friedensau Adventist University are a campus community. Staff, students and faculty alike form a trusting, tolerant, multicultural and cooperative community. We are located in a beautiful part of Germany surrounded by breathtaking nature. However no worries, we are only a day trip away (about 130km) from Germany’s capital Berlin, where you can find large shopping malls, numerous restaurants, intriguing museums and many world-famous tourist attractions (The Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall Memorial, the Charlottenburg Palace, and the Kurfürstendamm).

Back in Friedensau, no matter what sport you are interested in, you will find it here: we offer various activities from soccer, volleyball, basketball, horseback riding and even an on-campus gym.

If sporting activities is not your cup of tea, come visit the student center. Here you can feel comfortable to relax, talk, and have a cozy get-together, we have everything from snacks and soft drinks to board games and billiard and table soccer.

If you are a history lover, our campus has you covered. Most of our buildings on campus have amazing historical backgrounds, some dating back to 1899. Another plus, not far from Friedensau are sites of the reformation such as Wittenberg, Magdeburg, Eisleben and the Wartburg.


People from all over the world meet in Friedensau to study and live together on campus. The tenancy agreements apply to rooms in the student residence. All rooms are equipped with a limited access telephone (for receiving calls and free on-campus calls), Internet access (WLAN), and TV connection, the rooms are furnished and usually have a washbasin. There are shared showers and toilets on each floor of the student residence.

The TV and radio licence fee must be paid for each room. Every student is responsible for his/her registration and the payment of the TV and radio licence fee. Students who receive BAföG grants are exempt from the TV and radio licence fees upon application to the respective service company.
