Spanish Associate of Arts Degree for Transfer

The Associate in Arts in Spanish for Transfer is designed to prepare students for further study in Spanish at the university level. A degree in Spanish is a great way to prepare students for entry into a variety of career options requiring intermediate or better levels of fluency. The Associate in Arts in Spanish major also acquaints students with the cultures of Spanish speaking countries. The Associate in Spanish for Transfer is specifically designed for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in Spanish at a CSU campus. To earn the Associate in Spanish for Transfer, students must complete 60 required semester units of CSU-transferable coursework, CSU-GE Breath or IGETC requirements and 21-24 semester units within the major. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, including grades of C or higher in each course taken to fulfill the major. The local graduation requirements are not required for the transfer degree.

International Students and Scholars Admission Requirements

To determine whether you are eligible for admission to our Fresno City College International Program, please review the following Admission Requirements, and submit the completed checklist with your other application materials:

  • Student must be 18 years old prior to the start of the semester
  • Affidavit of Support Form
  • Cost of Attendance Acknowledgement Form
  • Financial Documents
  • TOEFL or IELTS Exam Results – Waived if student Graduated from a U.S. High School and/or if English is an official language of home country
    • TOEFL Score Requirement Score of 500 Paper Based Test (PBT) or 61 Internet Based Test (iBT) required from students applying from their home country. If a student attended and completed an English Language Training Program in the U.S. we will consider accepting a score of 460 PBT or 48 iBT. Transcripts will be required from English Training Program for review.
    • IELTS Score Requirement Overall Band Score of 5.5 required from students applying from home country with at least 5.0 in each subsection (Listening, reading, Writing, and Speaking). If a student attended and completed an English Language Training Program in the U.S. we will consider accepting an Overall Band Score of 5.0. Transcripts will be required from English Training Program for review.
  • High School Graduation Requirement Official Graduation Certificate/Diploma, transcripts, and/or equivalent evidence of graduation from a Secondary School or its equivalent are required. If records are not in English, certified translation must be furnished.

  • Advanced Spanish: Composition and Grammar
  • Advanced Spanish Conversation
  • Spanish Business and Culture
  • Introduction to Poetry in Spanish
  • Hispanic American Culture

Qualification

Student Learning Outcomes:


  1. Engage in conversation using the Spanish in the daily life situation.
  2. Read with a certain depth of understanding magazine or newspaper articles, short stories, and literacy excerpts written in Spanish.
  3. Write at the advanced level in a variety of modalities including personal and professional letters, short narratives, and descriptive essays.
  4. Recognize and understand cultural similarities and differences between U.S. culture and that of the Spanish speaking world. Distinguish simple behavioral patterns that represent these cultures and behave in culturally appropriate ways in specific situations.
