Franklin University Switzerland’s Gap year or semester programs for fall and spring terms are perfect for you.

Admission requirements

Admission Procedures

We recommend that you submit your application by June 15 (if you require a visa to come to Switzerland) for the Fall Semester, and by November 15 for the Spring Semester. For students not requiring a visa, we will still be accepting applications on a rolling basis throughout the summer. For potential tuition fee reductions, the priority deadlines are March 15 and November 1, respectively. You may study at Franklin with ‘Gap Year’ or 'Foundation Year' status for a maximum of two semesters.

All Gap/Foundation Year applicants are required to submit:

  1. A completed undergraduate application form and a non-refundable application fee of CHF 90 or US $90. To pay by credit card or for more information on ways to pay, please see Payment Options.
  2. An essay and personal statement.
  3. Official transcripts of work done in other institutions previously attended. A separate transcript must be sent directly by each institution, regardless of whether transfer credit is requested. Certified translations must be included for transcripts not written in English, Italian, French, German, or Spanish.
  4. One letter of recommendation from a professor, foreign study advisor or Dean, or two letters from employers if you have not attended school for more than one semester prior to the time of application.
  5. Non-U.S. applicants for whom English is not a first language are required to submit their scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or another internationally recognized test of English language proficiency, e.g. the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo English Test (DET). We require a score of 90 on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), a score of 5.5 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System)ora score of 110 on the DET (Duolingo English Test).
    For Foundation Year applicants, the Admissions Commission will consider lower grades, equivalent to B2 level in the Common European Framework for languages.

Program content

Franklin’s Gap Year program offers three experiential tracks:

  1. Academic and related Travel Track with transferable credits in a variety of disciplines
  2. Global Community Service Track with preparatory core classes
  3. Language-Intensive Track focused on gaining proficiency in French, Italian or German

Tuition fees

Per Semester

  • Academic Tuition Includes Academic Travel for US Citizens / Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens: $21,925
  • Academic Tuition Includes Academic Travel for International Students : CHF 24,550

Per Year

  • Academic Tuition Includes Academic Travel for US Citizens / Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens: $43,850
  • Academic Tuition Includes Academic Travel for International Students: CHF 49,100
