Program description

Although the majority of education graduates go on to employment as teachers in the public or private sector, some choose to follow other pathways. The Bachelor of Disability Studies and Bachelor of Special Education prepare you for a range of professional roles related to supporting students with disabilities and their families within the broader community.Potential occupations include:

  • primary school teacher
  • youth and children’s support officer
  • special education teacher
  • rehabilitation counsellor.
Potential employers include:
  • primary schools
  • government schools
  • independent schools
  • government education departments
  • special education or disability service settings.

Upon successful completion you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. Graduates looking for employment in other parts of Australia and overseas may be required to meet additional conditions. Graduates meet Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority employment criteria.

Completing the disability studies double degree makes you eligible to register as a developmental educator with Developmental Educators Australia Inc (DEAI).
