Office Administration – Executive

Today's workplaces are hives of activity, with a variety of personalities and office tools needing to be managed, scheduled and processed. If you've thought of a career that will put you in the middle of a fast-paced, people-based environment, the Office Administration Executive program will help you master the skills employees need to make their offices run smoothly.

In our executive assistant course, you'll learn how to oversee budgets, supervise and train others, organize meetings and travel arrangements, as well as plan conferences, research ideas and produce professional documents and reports. You'll also develop your organizational skills, learn computer applications, and enhance your verbal and written communication skills as part of your executive assistant certification. You'll study the importance of leadership while attending meetings of the London chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, where you'll meet industry contacts and learn from seasoned professionals over the course of your executive assistant training.

During two co-op work terms, you'll gain experience while getting paid

Admission requirements

  • OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH
  • Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U)

OR

  • Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE) WITH

OR

  • Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) WITH

OR

  • Mature Applicant with standing in the required courses stated above

Note

  • Applicants who lack the required Mathematics may still gain eligibility for admission by completing appropriate prior upgrading

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following methods

  • A Grade 12 College Stream or University Stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the program's Admission Requirements
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 79 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years SDS Program Requirements
  • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with a score of 60 in writing, reading and speaking and a score of 50 in listening
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 53, with test results within the last two years
  • A Cambridge English Test (FCE/CAE/CPE) with an overall score on the Cambridge English Scale of 169 with no language skill less than 162, with test results within the last two years
  • An English Language Evaluation (ELE) at Fanshawe College with a minimum score of 70% in all sections of the test, with test results within the last two years
  • Fanshawe College ESL4/GAP5 students: Minimum grade of 80% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 8, 75% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 9, or 70% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 10

Canadian students

The tuition fee for Canadian students is 1,360.26 CAD, and the total fees are 2,319.93 CAD.

International students

The tuition fee for International students is 7,233.50 CAD, and the total fees are 8,799.15 CAD.

Qualification

Credential - Ontario College Diploma

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

  1. conduct oneself professionally and adhere to relevant legislation, standards and codes of ethics
  2. manage the scheduling, coordination and organization of administrative tasks and workflow within specific deadlines and according to set priorities
  3. coordinate the collection, analysis, distribution and response to communications in the workplace to facilitate the flow of information
  4. operate and provide support related to the use, maintenance and procurement of office equipment and technologies
  5. evaluate, establish and administer a variety of records management systems* to ensure confidential, secure, accessible and organized electronic and paper records
  6. produce financial documents and reports by identifying and compiling relevant information and using accounting software
  7. prepare and produce a variety of business documents using available technologies and applying industry standards
  8. use interpersonal, leadership and client service skills to respond to diversity and to support the vision and mission of the organization
  9. research, analyze and summarize information on resources and services and prepare summary reports with recommendations
  10. select and use information technologies to support communication with internal and external stakeholders and to promote the organization
  11. organize and coordinate meetings, conferences, special events and make travel arrangements, including the preparation of related documentation
  12. support the implementation of projects by applying basic principles of project management

Career opportunities

Graduates of this program will be capable of filling responsible and interesting positions as administrative assistants and office coordinators, with career paths advancing toward increasingly more responsible positions in senior administrative support and office management roles. Administrative professionals are required in all organizations, including governments, manufacturers, educational institutions and service providers
