Are you interested in issues relating to economics, but do you also aim to develop a broader academic horizon? Together, Erasmus School of Economics and Erasmus School of Philosophy offer a Double bachelor in Economics and Philosophy of Economics to enable you to complete two entire bachelor programmes in just four years. Our students obtain a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics and Business Economics and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Philosophy of a Specific Discipline.
On the one hand the economics part of the programme aims to help you become truly internationally minded with important skills to analyse and solve problems in the field of economics.
On the other hand you will develop philosophical skills such as logical reasoning and the ability to express yourself clearly in writing. You will learn about philosophical problems and ethical issues, and you will gain knowledge about the history and basic assumptions of the academic discipline of economics.
Admission requirements
Applicants must show proficiency in the English language as all communication within the program is in English. All applicants must demonstrate this by means of a certified Academic TOEFL or Academic IELTSTest Score Report, taken no longer than 2 years before the day of application to the Erasmus School of Economics.

Program content
The first year: laying the foundation for economics
Your first year is divided into five blocks of eight weeks. Each block consists of three courses: one economics course, one course in business economics and one (or more) support course(s) or skills training.
Subjects range from marketing to mathematics, and accounting to organisation and strategy. In separate sessions, led by a student mentor, you will work on your skills in studying, presentation, writing and debating.
The second year: adding introductory philosophy
In addition to the regular economics curriculum, you will follow two introductory philosophy courses in the first ten weeks of the academic year. The first course, The Early Enlightenment, runs from week 36 until 39 with exams in week 40. The second course, The Quest for Man I, will be taught from week 41 until 44, with exams in week 45.
The third year: a mixture of both
In the third year you also follow the regular economics curriculum. On top of that, you attend introductory philosophy courses in the first ten weeks of the academic year. The first course, Essential Contemporary Challenges, runs from week 36 until 39, with exams in week 40. The second course, Thought Experiments, will be taught from week 41 until 44, with exams in week 45. You will also follow the courses Philosophy of Science I and II, and Technology and Social Change, which may count as a minor for the Econometrics programme as well.
The fourth year: advanced philosophy
The fourth year of your Double Bachelor programme Economics and Philosophy will consist solely of advanced philosophy courses, divided into four blocks per year. Each block runs for 10 weeks and lectures will mainly be given in the evening hours. In total the fourth year contains 60 credits. The fourth year includes advanced courses on the history of thought, the philosophical aspects of man and culture and social and political philosophy. You will write your thesis in the course of this final year under close supervision of a staff member.

Fortunately, the Dutch government subsidizes higher education which leads to lower tuition fees for students with a nationality from a country belonging to the European Economic Area (EEA). In recent years, more and more students from outside the EEA have decided to study in the Netherlands, resulting in a growing demand for academic scholarships. Erasmus Education Fund
Every academic year, the Erasmus Education Fund (EEF) supports several students with a scholarship of 3000 euro's per year. The EEF is only for excellent students who need provable financial support. Students may apply by following the application procedure for the EEF.
Erasmus School of Economics Student Waiver for excellent students from non-EEA countries
The Erasmus School of Economics has created a separate fund to support excellent students. The maximum award of the waiver consists of a tuition fee waiver for the year 2016-2017. Resulting in a tuition fee equal to the statutory fee. Current or prospective students who are awarded this waiver will therefore not themselves directly receive a sum of money.
Holland Scholarship Erasmus University
The Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s in Holland. The scholarship amounts to € 5,000. .
