MSc Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions

Program description

MSc Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions

The world’s cities are changing, but not enough. New technology, business models, and global priorities are transforming the way we get around, and regional planners and urban engineers are under pressure to prepare for and exploit these transformations to help bring about an urban environment that consumes fewer scarce resources, contributes less to climate change, and provides more liveable neighbourhoods and workplaces. To accomplish this requires competence beyond the traditional urban planning and civil engineering disciplines, along with entrepreneurial skills to drive change that puts innovations into practice. The Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions program provides such experience, preparing students to become the next urban innovators and leaders in urban mobility.

Admission requirements

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions program welcomes students with an array of backgrounds and experiences. The program is ideal for students with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Geoinformation Technology, Urban Planning, Geography, and/or Economics. Additional disciplines are welcome, provided students have a solid foundation in quantitative approaches to solving problems and verifiable experience in programming, calculus, linear algebra, and mathematical statistics.

Admissions Criteria

  • Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree encompassing a minimum of 180 ECTS credits or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university.

Proof of English Language Proficiency

All our programs are taught in English. All applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency. This is generally verified through an internationally recognized test such as TOEFL or IELTS. We advise all applicants considering submitting an application to take either a TOEFL or an IELTS test as they are accepted by all partner universities.

Program content

All Programs at the EIT Urban Mobility Master School follow the same scheme:

  • Students study one year each at two different universities–the “entry” university and the “exit” university. All options are located at a leading university in Europe in the field of urban mobility.
  • During the first-year studies, students will be given an introduction to Innovation and Entrepreneurship and participate in an extended Challenge Project. During the same year, students will acquire essential technical skills for working with urban mobility challenges.
  • Between the first and second year, students will participate in a Summer School applying new skills to two different cities located in Europe.
  • In the second year, students will choose from several more specialised courses in both technical content and innovation and entrepreneurship. Students will also participate in a shorter challenge project that includes an internship at a company or organisation working to meet urban mobility challenges.
  • Finally, also in the second year, students will carry out their own master thesis work, combining and demonstrating their full set of technical and entrepreneurial skills.
