Master of Science Marine Technology

Delft University of Technology

Program description

Master of Science Marine Technology

If you are up for a challenge...
..consider that of holding an oil storage vessel stable in stormy seas, and high winds and currents while thousands of tons of oil are being loaded from a well. Or the on-time construction  and delivery of a ship consisting of tens of thousands of different components and parts; unmistakably formidable logistics and production achievements.

TU Delft’s MSc programme in Marine Technology is the only one of its type offered in the Netherlands. It trains students to be engineers capable of handling the entire process of design, construction, production and operation of ships and marine systems. MT engineers have broad knowledge in depth of basic engineering sciences, broad basic technical and scientific knowledge of marine technology disciplines, and are specialised in at least one of these, for example in ship hydromechanics, ship and offshore structures, marine systems design or ship production.

Students also address various social and environmental subjects. They develop skills in solving multidisciplinary problems by systematic thinking, analysis and synthesis, and they learn to work in multidisciplinary teams as well as independently. Successful graduates are ensured of a solid basis for their future career.

Some of our present research topics include: ship motions at high speeds and extreme sea conditions, ship motions in restricted waterways, integrated parameter approach to ship design, laser measurement in microbubble ventilated boundary layer, fuel cell technology in ships, safe ship & mini cruiser, risk analysis container shipping, intelligent condition monitoring, effective ballast water treatment and automatic model building for dynamic simulation.

Now, let’s talk about your future career….
Our students after graduation are able to find themselves jobs in the following businesses: Research & Development Institutes, Naval Architect Design Offices, Shipyards (new building & ship repair), Shipowners, Navy, Dredging, Classification Societies, Shipbrokers, Banks, Insurances, Engine Manufactures, Propeller manufacturers, Government Departments, Training and Education etc.

Our goals, your achievement
The fundamental goal of the programme in Marine Technology is to provide students with broad basic technical and scientific knowledge of marine technology disciplines, such as marine systems design, structures and production, hydromechanics and marine operations. The programme means the student can innovate, model and design marine systems, communicate effectively with team members and their environment, and contribute to solving multidisciplinary problems within the constraints of sustainability, economics and social welfare.
