Master of Science in Optics in Science and Technology

MSc OpSciTech is a unique European Master’s Course providing a comprehensive and multidisciplinary coverage of the field of Optics, from upstream scientific aspects to engineering and applications in major sectors of the economy. Offered by six top-level academic partners in five countries, it receives financial support from the European Commission and is supported by major industries such as Alcatel-Lucent, Philips, Saint-Gobain, Thales, Zeiss or ASML.

Students enrolled in the two-year programme will study in two different countries of their choice, spending one year in each and offering the opportunity to acquire 60 European Credit Transfer System units (ECTS) per year. Students are trained for technical or scientific positions in academic or industrial environment specialised in optics or using optics. PhD studies are a natural extension of the Course.

Mobility scheme: each student spends the first year at one of the five sites and the second year at one of the other four sites. The language of instruction is English. Students are offered the possibility to learn the local language as part of the programme. Courses are taught by research staff members. The student population is multinational with a professor/student ratio of about 2.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements for MSc of Science in Optics in Science and Technology:

  •                  A good university BSc degree
  •                  A BSc Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 75% of the scale maximum
  •                  Proof of English language proficiency

Tuition fees

Tuition fee for 2012-2013 academic year

For students with EU/EFTA nationality or Surinamese nationality 
around € 1,771 per year (all programme)

For students with non EU/EFTA nationality

  •         all Bachelor's programmes € 8,096,- per year
  •         all Master's programmes € 12,650,- per year 

The various TU Delft joint programmes have their own individual tuition fees and Tuition fees for TU Delft’s programmes are reviewed annually.

You will need approximately € 1.500,- to cover initial settling-in expenses. The cost of living and study, including food, accommodation, transport, books, and obligatory health insurance is estimated to be between € 850 and € 1.100,- per month.
