Specialist Community Public Health Nursing with NMC Registration BSc (Hons)
The program aims to ensure that students are prepared to promote health and social well- being through the achievement of the standards of proficiency of specialist community public health nursing (NMC 2004) and adherence to The Code (NMC, 2018).
Practitioners are challenged to consider the socio-economic, political and professional factors that influence and reflect health care demands and provision. They are facilitated in developing their knowledge and skills to enhance the provision of health care, by applying appropriate theory, research and evidence, to reflect contemporary perspectives. Emphasis is placed upon acknowledging the multi-dimensional nature of human beings and providing health promoting care through collaborative working.
Health visitors and School Nurses as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses will have the scope to develop strategies to expand their capacity to lead public health practice and participate in local health plans. The role for health visitors and school nurses focuses on individual, family and community centred public health to improve and tackle health inequalities.The ultimate aim is for you to mature into someone with the skills, knowledge and understanding to function as a valuable member of the community, and become a reflective, evidence-based and innovative practitioner as you deliver a client-centred program of care.
This course is only available for UK/EU students.
Admission requirements
All students must have an effective registration on either the Nursing or Midwifery part of the NMC professional register as a first level nurse.

Also possess 120 credits at levels 4 and 5 and have the ability to study successfully at degree level.

Program delivery
A range of appropriate strategies will be used. Strategies may include:
- Lectures, online learning and discussion methods, providing the knowledge to underpin practice and to promote student participation and the sharing of views.
- Tutor led seminars to promote reflection, clinical learning, academic progress and to provide opportunities to address student issues.
- Group work to explore complex issues and difficult concepts in regards to problem solving and skill development.
- Computer based learning/internet facilities to access web based information
- Student led seminars to promote reflection, participation and academic development.
- Independent learning to develop the skills necessary for student centred life long learning flexible learning.
Career paths
A BSc (Hons) or PG Dip academic award and professional qualification (recommended to the NMC part three of the register) will allow you to practise as either as a health visitor or school nurse (dependent on field undertaken) in providing high quality child, family, group and wider community specialist public health nursing care in clinical practice.
