The Data Engineer expert is one of the most important job in the Big Data Industry. This 6 months of classes and 6-month internship Applied MSc1 programme, with its two entries in Autumn and Spring, is designed to open your career to these Big Data Engineering jobs all industries are looking for.
Classes for this Applied MSc programme are offered on a full-time basis from DSTI campuses (around 5hrs a day), Online or in SPOC mode (self-paced and montlhy intakes).
There is an important shortage of big data experts and companies in various sectors suffer from this. Data Engineering specialists are in high demand and enterprises know the real value of their roles. In France-Benelux, we have seen a big increase in the demand for skilled people in data engineering in both start-ups and world leading companies. For every data scientist there is a need for at least two experts in data engineering.
A data engineer role is a highly technical position and requires skills such as programming, mathematics and computer science.
- Applicants with a 3-Year BA, BSC or BENG Degree: 1 year of relevant work experience
- Applicants with a 4-Year BA, BSC-BENG or MA-MSC.Meng Degree: No particular preconditions*
- Applicants with a 5-Year MA, MSC-MENG or Chartered Engineers: No particular preconditions*
* Relevant work experience is a plus.

700-hour programme – 60 ECTS (including a 75-hour preparatory bootcamp)
850-hour internship (6 months) – The internship is equivalent to 30 ECTS
In this Applied MSc programme, you will:
- Learn how to understand the analysis, design, implementation & monitoring of IT & Big Data architectures;
- Leverage the most prevalent programming languages and their libraries for applied machine and deep learning;
- Learn how to architect and deploy highly distributed data and computation clusters such as Hadoop or SPARK;
- Discover the DevOps world and set up continuous integration architecture.
Data ScienceTech Institute is offering all future students a bootcamp to get you up to speed on skills required to start leveraging the different topics of our applied programmes.For Data Engineering for AI, this applied BootCamp lasts 15 days (3 weeks)and can be followed on-campus or online.
The DSTI bootCamp is a fundamental piece of preparation for your studies. As an integral part of the programmes, it prepares DSTI students to all the base knowledge in applied mathematics and IT for a smooth start. According to your profile, some parts may be known, but even then, we’ve have plenty of students’ feedback telling us how important it was to refresh former knowledge.
As a full-time student, you may not have time to attend it live as it’s delivered four weeks before the start of “Applied Mathematics” (a tradition at DSTI). But it’s recorded and available to unlimited replay. And SPOC students do not have this issue: they all start with the BootCamp!
The following tuition fees are subject to change for the next academic year.
- On-campus mode & Self-Paced Online mode: €14,500
- Online mode (for students living in France): €13,050

Once your studies and professional experience are completed, your achievements will be assessed by our Graduation Committee. If successful, you will be able to obtain the degree “Expert en Sciences des Données” (Expert in Data Science). DSTI is proud of its Applied MSc in Data Science & AI and Applied MSc in Data Engineering for AI to have been fully accredited at Master’s level by the French Government via the RNCP mechanism. The RNCP “Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles” is a government recognition mechanism dedicated to scrutinising programmes’ suitability for the work market. A RNCP title rewards specific needs in terms of skills and knowledge transfer for immediate employability, which is the heart of DSTI philosophy.
The average salary of an experienced Data Engineer can range from 54,000 euros to 63,000 euros. Since 2016, the demand for this job position has been increasing and is driven by the growing transition of companies from traditional BI systems to Big Data systems. For every data scientist there is a need for at least two experts in data engineering.
The objective of the programme is to train Data Engineers ready for employment and mastering the ecosystem of Big Data.
