MSc Medical Genetics at the CSMM
The MSc in medical genetics at the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine is a 1-year master degree program taught in English. Students will also have the possibility of completing this program in 2-years with part-time studies.
This medical genetics degree is comprised of mandatory and elective courses in medical genetics and molecular medicine, followed by a master’s research project. Successful students will have to pass all course examinations and the MSc thesis examination or the library project report.
The program promotes excellence and educates students on the significant issues in medical genetics. The challenging curriculum includes mandatory taught courses which cover the main aspects of medical genetics and a number of elective courses enabling students to broaden their knowledge on other fields of medical genetics.
Research for the medical genetics program are conducted in the state-of-the-art departments and the clinics of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING). As an international center of excellence, CING carries out cutting edge research in medical genetics.
MSc students will be provided with the knowledge and tools to complete a competitive research in innovative fields such as:
- Brain and behavior
- Cellular and molecular neuroscience
- Neurosciences and neurogenetics
- Cytogenetics and genomics
- Molecular genetics
- Molecular basis of monogenic diseases
- Molecular virology and immunology
- Molecular basis of complex diseases.
The Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine offers accredited MSc postgraduate programs. The programs are offered in full-time (one year) and part-time (two years) modes of study. Each postgraduate program consists of mandatory and elective courses. MSc postgraduate programs also include a research or a library project.
To be admitted to the MSc Programs, a student must meet the minimum requirements listed below:
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized accredited institution, in a related field
- English Language Certification or other accepted International Standard, if the previous degree obtained was not in English.
- A Completed Online Application Form
- Two Academic References
- Academic Transcripts
- High School Leaving certificate.
- English Language Certificate (if not graduated from an English speaking University)

Medical Genetics is becoming an increasingly important aspect in healthcare and has a major impact in the provision of more accurate clinical diagnoses, as well as enabling state-of-the-art therapeutic approaches that have already been introduced in the clinic in the recent years. It is a major component of the vision towards personalized medicine and thus constitutes a highly attractive field of studies for the next generation of biomedicine professionals.
The program offers four stimulating compulsory courses on Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics and Genomics, Biochemical Genetics, as well as Methodologies and Technologies Applied in Medical Genetics. A number of elective courses such as Bioinformatics, Molecular Basis of Monogenic Diseases, Molecular Basis of Complex Diseases, Gene and Cell Therapy, Neurosciences and Neurogenetics, Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, Brain and Behaviour and Molecular Virology and Immunology are also available, enabling students to broaden their knowledge.
Students also carry out an original research or library project within the state-of-the-art Departments and Clinics of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics. The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics implements pioneering research work and internationally renowned work in Medical Genetics and therefore provides the MSc students with the knowledge and tools to complete a competitive and advanced research or library project work.
The tuition fees: 8,000 euros.
Scholarships & funding
A number of full scholarships based on academic criteria are awarded to CSMM students. The exact amount and number of scholarships that will be offered is always subject to the yearly budget of the School.

Master of Science (MSc) degree.
Upon completing this program, MSc graduates will have acquired a detailed knowledge of the major medical genetics topics with emphasis on clinically relevant and translational aspects of genetic diseases. Our graduates may embark on a PhD programme and thus enter a research/academic career or join Clinical Laboratories offering Genetics diagnostic services, the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare organisations and hospitals.
