About this program

Molecular Medicine at the CSMM

The MSc in molecular medicine at Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics is taught in English on a full-time or part-time basis. The 12-month full-time MSc program will be composed of coursework and lectures as well as a research project.

Students of this master molecular medicine degree will take both compulsory and elective courses including courses in:

  • Gene and cell therapy
  • Neurosciences
  • Molecular genetics
  • Monogenic diseases
  • Complex diseases
  • Methodologies
  • Technologies applied in medical genetics

The program promotes excellence and educates students on the significant issues in molecular medicine. The challenging curriculum includes mandatory taught courses which cover the main aspects of molecular medicine and a number of elective courses enabling students to broaden their knowledge in medicine.

The MSc research projects are conducted in the state-of-the-art departments and clinics of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING). As an international centre of excellence, CING carries out research in molecular medicine.

Admission requirements

Applicants must have a BSc / Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Program content

The courses you will take as a student of the Molecular Medicine program, have been designed with a focus on the clinical activities of the CING Departments. This is a great benefit for you as a student, as compared to taking a program which is taught at a purely academic institution. In addition, as a student of the CING, a major advantage for you is the opportunity to take a laboratory project and work alongside the experienced Scientists and Clinicians of the CING in their respective research fields so as to gain an in depth understanding of all aspects of Molecular Medicine.

A number of full scholarships based on academic criteria are awarded to CING students. The exact amount and number of scholarships that will be offered is always subject to the yearly budget of the School.

The CING’s MSc Molecular Medicine program is ideal for you if you are a clinician or a scientist looking to gain an in depth understanding of the discipline and its various applications within the broader field of Biomedical Sciences. As a Scientist you will be able to competently work in a research or diagnostic laboratory dealing with the multiple aspects of Molecular Medicine, while contributing to the research knowledge and advances in the therapy and management of inherited diseases. Degree Programs

The CING currently offers the following MSc and PhD postgraduate accredited programmes (by all official bodies of the Republic of Cyprus), with the use of European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) values. All programmes, are taught in English:

  • MSc / PhD Molecular Medicine
  • MSc / PhD Medical Genetics
  • MSc / PhD Neuroscience
  • MSc Biomedical Research

The MSc programmes combine taught courses with a Research or Library project and have a duration of 13 months in full-time mode and 24 months in part-time mode. The MSc Biomedical Research programme has a duration of two years in full-time mode and three years in part-time mode.

The PhD programmes combine taught courses during year 1 of studies with a research project throughout and have a duration of 4 to 6 years in full-time mode and 6 to 8 years in part-time mode.
