Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Ph.D.)
Cyprus Health and Social Sciences UniversityAbout this program
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Ph.D.)
An oral surgeon is a dentist who specializes in dental implants, face discomfort, and restorative surgical treatments such as wisdom tooth extraction. In addition to general dentistry, an oral surgeon may repair dental and face traumas such as broken jaws and knocked-out teeth. Mouth surgeons can also do face cosmetic surgery and treat oral malignancies. An oral surgeon goes to dentistry school for four years and then completes at least four years of hospital surgical residency.
Oral surgeons, sometimes known as maxillofacial surgeons, are skilled in detecting, diagnosing, and preventing abnormalities and illnesses of the mouth, jaw, teeth, and gums. In an emergency, please phone our office and our answering service will connect you with our on-call doctor.
Anesthesia is used before extensive dental treatments and oral surgery to help with pain control. We can make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible since an oral surgeon has considerable expertise in anesthetic. Dental anesthetic has been shown to be a safe and effective pain management treatment during in-office visits. Local anaesthetic can be used for minor procedures, whereas general anesthesia can be used for more comprehensive repairs and operations.
