Sports and Exercise Nutrition MSc
Over the past decade, the impact of nutrition and exercise in optimising athletic performance and recovery from injury has become increasingly clear and there has been a growing demand for highly trained specialists in this field.
This exciting master’s aims to foster an evidence-based approach to understanding the science and application of sports nutrition and exercise for a diverse range of individuals to improve their health, fitness or sporting performance. It will appeal to dietitians, nutritionists and sport and exercise science graduates.
It is also one of the few courses in the Midlands which allows you to demonstrate the academic competencies outlined in the Sports and Exercise Nutrition register (SENr), the national register for qualified sport and exercise nutritionists.
Admission requirements
UK students
Applicants should hold the equivalent of a 2:2 undergraduate degree in Dietetics, Human Nutrition or Sport Science which include a module on Physiology. Students must have studied and passed a level 3 module on nutrition.
International students
Applicants should hold the equivalent of a 2:2 undergraduate degree in Dietetics, Human Nutrition or Sport Science which include a module on Physiology. Students must have studied and passed a level 3 module on nutrition.
This course requires IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5.

Qualification
On successful completion of this course, you should have knowledge of:
- The underpinning principal conceptual and theoretical issues in sport and exercise nutrition.
- Key anthropometric, physiological and nutritional assessments.
- The physiology of exercise and principles used to construct training programmes, physical activity, nutrition and obesity, and research skills.
- The structure, regulation and organisation of sporting agencies.
On successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Critically analyse, evaluate and interpret knowledge and practice in sport and exercise nutrition.
- Formulate and present a critical argument using a variety of methods (eg presentations, essays) that would stand up to critical review and scrutiny in academic and professional settings.
- Exhibit the skills of critical reasoning in relation to application of sports nutrition.
- Analyse key nutritional, anthropometric and physiological assessments.
- Reflect on the role and responsibilities of the sports nutrition expert.
- Interpret training programmes.
- Utilise and show evidence of reflective practice.
- Carry out appropriate anthropometrical, nutritional and physiological assessments.
- Devise suitable nutritional goals for sports men and women.
- Design personalised meals plans that will meet an individual’s nutritional goals
