Health Information Technology
Health Information Technology (HIT) is a unique profession that combines facets of medicine, data management, and information technology, giving graduates the background to work in a range of health care settings.
The Health Information Technology (HIT) program of the College of Lake County is dedicated to the primary mission of meeting the educational needs of the diverse community we serve who desire to enter the Health Information Management profession delivering high quality, accessible learning opportunities to advance student success. In addition, the program is dedicated to meeting the needs and expectations of the healthcare community of Lake County for well-trained, competent Health Information Technicians.
Admission requirements
High school graduate or equivalent or high school senior in last term B. College Reading and Writing Readiness and Basic Algebra Readiness C. CLC Cumulative GPA is 2.0 or above D. NLN PAX with minimum composite RN percentile rank of 50 (within 3 years prior to the screening deadline) E. Attendance at a Health Information Technology Information Session (within two years of the screening deadline)
To qualify for unconditional admission to these programs, students must provide evidence that they have attained a certain level of knowledge in the arts and sciences through previous learning.
Evidence may be provided by observing the following procedures:
- Successfully complete the admission requirements.
- Submit either a high school transcript or a student profile report from the American College Testing (ACT) Program
International Students test scores required for placement in college level classes:
For the College’s academic college-level programs, students must verify their language proficiency by:
- a minimum score of 153 on the Language Skills section of the College of Lake County Academic Proficiency Test
- a minimum TOEFL score of 527 on the Paper Based Test, 197 on the Computer Based Test, 71 on the Internet Based Test
- ELI Accuplacer score of 320 or higher
- 6.0 – Academic Format – on the IELTS
- ELS Language Centers, Completing Level 112
