About this program

Computer Science - Visual Computing and Computer Games

The program focuses on the education of graduates prepared to solve research problems in the sub-area of computer science related to the generation and processing of visual information (computer graphics, image analysis, machine vision) and/or computer games development. The primary means of education is independent research, publication and presentation of research results, as well as their eventual transfer to the industry through student internships. The creative activity within the program focuses on developing new or improving existing mathematical methods, algorithms and technologies dealing with computer processing of visual information and with computer games. The program reflects the growing demand for advanced technologies and builds on the exceptional expertise of MFF UK and UTIA ASCR in these research areas. Graduates can be employed in academia, public research institutions, and private companies.

Career paths

Graduates possess theoretical knowledge and practical experience in computer graphics, image analysis, computer vision or computer games. They have general knowledge of methods used in these fields and can apply them in solving specific research and practical tasks. Their knowledge is firmly rooted in a theoretical framework of applied mathematics and informatics. The fundamental skills of doctoral program graduates are the ability of independent research work and the solution of open issues in areas of visual computing or computer games.

The graduates can work in private and public enterprises engaged in the research and development of advanced visual technologies. In particular, this includes computer graphics (video and TV production, computer animation, 3D modeling, realistic rendering, data visualization, 2D and 3D printing), image analysis and computer vision (CCTV, microscopy, remote sensing, military and medical applications, security systems, biometric recognition, image and video coding and distribution), or the development of computer games and interactive virtual and augmented reality systems. The graduate is equally well prepared for a research career in the academia.
