Bachelor of Commerce

The Sprott School of Business offers a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) program that provides a complete business education. The program is very flexible with eight concentrations, as well as options to add co-op, study abroad and/or a minor in another subject.

The first two years of the BCom program consist of foundation courses in all business areas. You will also develop critical skills in various forms of business communications, including presentations, cover letters and resumés.

The Sprott School of Business also offers a separate Bachelor of International Business degree program.

The Sprott School of Business also offers the following graduate programs: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Accounting, MSc/PhD in Management.

Admission requirements

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  • Grade12 English (ENG4U)
  • Grade12 Advanced Functions
  • Grade12 Calculus and Vectors or Grade12 Mathematics of Data Management

Advanced Functions mark must be mid to low 70s.

Program content

Sprott’s Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) program delivers a complete business education with the choice of eight concentrations andoptions to add co-op, study abroad, and/or a minor in another subject.

In the first two years of the BCom program, you will take courses in all key areas of business. You will also develop critical skills in various forms of business communications, including oral and written presentations.Upper years provide an opportunity to specialize in a concentration, or continue without a concentration. It is also possible to pursue a double concentration.Enhance your degree by taking part in co-op or an international exchange at one of over 175 partner institutions in more than 35 countries.

You can also add a minor from another faculty for even greater career flexibility.

Co-operative education (co-op) is an option open to the students in the Bachelor of Commerce program. Through co-op, you will:

  • Gain business-related work experience.
  • Network with industry professionals, gaining valuable references and future contacts.
  • Learn from a number of mentors and tutors.
  • Develop marketable skills.
  • Learn how to find work in a competitive job market.
  • Earn money to help offset student debt.

As a co-op student, you will alternate study terms with four or eight month work terms, which begin the summer after second year. Typically, an additional one to two academic terms are required to complete your degree.

Program delivery

Carleton is planning for a safe and gradual return to campus in fall 2021. We are offering a flexible learning model, allowing students the option of attending sessions in the classroom, online or a hybrid of both.
