Program description

Industrial Engineering

Based on the focus on business and technology, the industrial engineering course provides students with a well-founded engineering education based on two focus areas: a technical specialization on the subject of industrial technology and an economic specialization with a focus on innovation management and manufacturing economics. Students are trained to be “bridge builders” who work at the interface between business and technology in a wide variety of sectors.

The course content is conveyed in a practical and personal manner, the industrial engineering course can also fall back on an extensive network for this purpose. Students benefit from the contacts not only when choosing an internship, but also when it comes to projects and later points of contact for jobs. In the innovation workshop and in the smart lab, you can develop and implement your own ideas and possibly lay the foundation for a successful business start-up.

Admission requirements

  • German language skills B2

For admission to a bachelor's degree, at least one of the following criteria must be met:

  • General University Entrance Qualification
  • Vocational matriculation examination
  • Subject-relevant university entrance qualification examination

The German advanced technical college entrance qualification is only valid as admission to an Austrian FH bachelor's degree if it also provides a relevant professional qualification.

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing their studies, graduates have the following skills and knowledge:

  • You have basic knowledge in mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, business administration, economics and law.
  • You can analyze entrepreneurial problems holistically and solve them in a team, taking technical and economic aspects into account.
  • You understand the innovation process and are able to initiate and support innovation processes.
  • They apply the essential methods of statics and strength theory, kinematics and kinetics, construction and materials science as well as electrical engineering.
  • You will be involved in the implementation of regulation and control systems in mechanical systems.
  • You create holistic evaluations of manufacturing processes under technical and economic parameters as well as technology roadmaps.
  • You will design basic concepts for manufacturing machines and manufacturing systems based on various requirement criteria.
  • You work out business models and business plans.
  • You develop projects and create project assignments.

Continuing studies

Successful completion of the bachelor's degree entitles to a master's degree in engineering & IT at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences for 4 semesters as well as a master's degree in engineering & IT at another university of applied sciences or university.

The interdisciplinary master’s course Industrial Engineering & Management combines all the essential topics that meet at the interface of business and technology: Design & engineering, production and automation technology, integrated manufacturing systems, smart production on the technical side, industrial management, corporate management, strategy and Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Business Development on the economic side.

Career opportunities

Industrial engineers work as generalists and, depending on their personal interests and skills, work in many different fields of industry and work.

Examples of occupational fields can be found in industrial and commercial enterprises (production management, logistics, project management, innovation management, technology marketing and sales, purchasing, controlling), in the service sector (engineering offices, consulting, civil engineering, expert work) and in the public service (research and teaching at universities, teaching HTLs, public administration).
