About this program

The evolution of wireless communication systems has been accelerating recently. On this distinctive course, students will develop a detailed technical knowledge of current practice in wireless systems and networks. Students will study both the fundamentals and the latest innovations in this field. Students also have the opportunity to explore new techniques in the upcoming 5G systems, including massive MIMO cloud and fog computing and big data analysis using smart systems. Students also have the opportunity to explore many wireless standards including UMTS, LTE-Advanced, WiMAX, DVB-S2,DVB-T2, ZigBee, UWB, Mesh and Ad-Hoc protocols.

The department has excellent resources in wireless communications with internationally recognised researchers and state-of-the-art equipment.
The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, providing a route to Chartered Engineer status.
Brunel’s Women in Engineering and Computing mentoring scheme provides our female students with invaluable help and support from their industry mentors.

You’ll learn through lectures, workshops, seminars, self-study and individual and group project work. Examinations are normally held in January and May. On successful completion of the first part of the course, you’ll proceed to the dissertation.
