Program description

About the course

The Sport and Exercise Psychology course focuses on the application of psychology in sport and exercise. This course will provide you with a programme of study that prepares you for Stage 2 of training to become a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
The course is fully accredited by the BPS. Students who successfully complete the course will also pass Stage 1 of training to become a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist.
The course will also prepare you for BASES accreditation as a Sport Scientist (Sport Psychologist).

You’ll have the opportunity to study a fully-accredited course (Sport and Exercise Psychology) or prepare yourself to pursue accreditation through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

Teaching and learning

We will assess your academic performance through essays, case studies, oral presentations, poster presentations, laboratory report writing and computer-based tests. Formal written examinations constitute part of the assessment in some modules. In addition, you will need to submit, and pass, a research dissertation.


You’ll be equipped with the skills and knowledge gained from staff with extensive experience as practitioners backed by research excellence. These courses will also prepare you for formal accreditation or doctoral study.
