Film and TV at Brunel is ranked 22nd in UK, 4th in London (The Guardian University Guide 2018).

Our editing suites have up-to-date production software with accredited training facilities for Final Cut Pro 10. We run masterclasses with filmmakers and screenwriters, enabling you to gain expert advice and guidance.

Film and television have a ubiquitous influence on our lives and evidence of genre and narrative are everywhere in our modern, technologically advanced world.
Through the study of film and television you’ll develop in-depth cultural knowledge and transferable skills in critical analysis, communication and creativity. You’ll be introduced to mainstream and alternative practices and consider the social contexts in which works are produced and consumed. At Brunel, we have an enthusiastic and experienced department with film experts who specialise in diverse areas of theory and production. They are involved in many areas of research and we offer innovative courses that combine theory with practice. Our course is a great way to immerse yourself in a subject that fascinates you and to work towards a career in film or television. You’ll graduate well equipped with skills that are attractive to a host of employers.

Facilities - For your practical modules you’ll have access to state-of-the-art equipment, including HD digital cameras. You’ll learn to edit on Avid and Final Cut Pro in our first-class edit suites, with plenty of technical support on hand.
Industry links - In Level 3, you’ll benefit from a period of work experience in the areas that interest you most. As we’re so close to central London, you can take advantage of screenings at the British Film Institute, the Institute of Contemporary Arts and other cinemas across the capital.
Why study Film and Television Studies at Brunel? - The content of our innovative course reflects the wide-ranging interests of our department staff. Their work includes an enormous range of recent and contemporary productions for big screen and small, and covers mainstream and alternative practices. On the course, you’ll develop the critical and technological vocabularies and critical frameworks to analyse film and television texts and contexts – aesthetic, socio-cultural and institutional – and apply them to your own work. After Level 1 up to 40 per cent of your module choices can be practical, letting you apply theory to your own work. You’ll be eligible to enter our annual student film festival with categories including Best Fiction, Best Non-Fiction and Best Overall Film.
Getting ready for work During your work experience you’ll gain training and skills in your area of interest and get insight into the working practices of film and media organisations. You’ll develop the problem-solving and management skills required to get the job done. You’ll be able to draw on our network of contacts to arrange your placement. We can also support you in approaching a business of your choice. Our graduates have secured jobs with companies including BBC, ITV, Granada and Ridley Scott Associates as casting agents, researchers, production assistants and film officers.
