Program description

Study a Master of Fine Arts in Motion Picture Medium in South Africa

The AFDA MFA in Motion Picture Medium focuses on developing innovative research into the production of feature-length motion pictures and television series. The degree has a strong emphasis on audience consumption and cultural relevance.

During this program students’ studies, will consist of individual academic research and professional practice in production teams or professional productions. Students will also be required to complete a feature film, a feature documentary, or feature film and TV series screenplay along with other relevant assignments.Throughout this program students will get professional practice and experience and will receive feedback from supervisors and mentors.

Admission requirements

Applicants wishing to enter the program should meet the following requirements:

  • An honors degree in a related field or ten years in experience in the industry
  • A portfolio to demonstrate that you have the relevant intellectual and craft skills for the AFDA curriculum
