MSc Applied Artificial Intelligence and User Experience
Learn to design and interrogate AI systems with a clear understanding of human behaviour. With the dependence on digital automation and remote working greater than ever, there is a huge demand for professionals with skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and User Experience (UX).
We are the first UK university to offer a Master's degree bringing together AI, UX Research and Applied Psychology. As well as gaining a thorough understanding of Data and AI techniques, you'll explore theoretical concepts with practical applications.
We teach you how to:
- Apply Psychology and AI principles.
- Enrich the design of AI solutions through good practice UX.
- Use Data, AI and Applied Psychology to inform the design of prototypes.
Using data and AI to acquire deeper insights into human behaviour and psychology, you'll also focus on the ethical responsibilities of developing AI applications.
This course has a practical focus, and features projects and group work as well as work placements where possible.
Admission requirements
Subject Requirements
Applicants should have a minimum of a lower second-class (2:2) honours degree in either Design, Engineering, Computing, Physical, Natural, Life or Biological sciences. The course is designed for students with some experience of scripting.
Applicants who did not cover the appropriate subjects during their degree will be considered if they have relevant industry experience.
English Language Requirements
All courses at Abertay University are taught in English. If your first language is not English, you will need to demonstrate that you meet our English language requirements. Accepted English language qualifications include:
- IELTS - overall score of 6.0 with no band lower than 5.5
- TOEFL - overall score of 78 (individual elements: L-17, R-18, S-20, W-17)
- Cambridge FCE/CAE/CPE - overall score of 169 on Cambridge Grading Scale

Program delivery
Full-time on campus students will complete the degree in one year: The academic year consists of three terms with the Master's project module completed in term 3.
Part-time on campus students will complete the degree in two years: Year 1 consist of two terms, and Year 2 of three terms with the Master's project module completed in the final term.
Tuition
- Scottish students: £7,500 per year
- English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Irish students: £10,000 per year
- EU and International students: £17,000 per year

The need for Artificial Intelligence professionals is increasing every year, as shown on IT Jobs Watch (UK). Skilled Junior Level professionals in the UX field are both highly paid and in demand.
This means you can work in a variety of roles, exploring Al solutions for end users and/or using Data &Al to understand human behaviour. Potential jobs include UI Designer Al Architect, Data Scientist or Machine Learning Software Engineer. You could choose to continue your studies and become an Al Researcher.
