In addition to design training, students are also taught how to analyze a design to ensure that it is safe and strong. They then learn how to oversee the job site and apply the details of the blueprint.

The formal higher education system of Finland is the 7-3-2-2 pattern. The university takes two years in vocational or technical education and finally two-year pre-tertiary education.
