11 Special Education Degree Programs

The main objective of the study program special education is to prepare highly qualified staff for theoretical and fieldwork in the area of providing special education services in the widest possible range, according to the differentiated structure of the Czech study fields of special education (SSP – support for disabilities related to sight, hearing, physical or mental state, support for citizens with communication skill deficits, autistic spectrum disorders, behavioral disorders or support for people with social disadvantages) with special focus on the current issues of contemporary special education in the international context. The fundamental asset of the Ph.D. study in the field of special education is the preparation of specialists to succeed in independent scientific research projects, leading to their personal and career growth to enrich the scientific field of special education as a modern social science area. The Master of Teaching with concentrations in elementary education or special education, allows career changers to earn a Master’s degree and a recommendation for obtaining the licensure to serve as a teacher in Colorado

Using the M.A. track offered at the Melton Centre as a strong base, we have developed a blended On-Site and Distance MA Program (non-research intended for students’ resident overseas) in Jewish Education, which is offered to Jewish educators in Jewish communities around the world. Language Sciences and Cultural Studies for Special Needs is a second-level degree (Laurea Magistrale) in Linguistics (LM39-Linguistica), taught entirely in English, offered by the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Industries of the University of Parma. It devotes specific attention to aspects related to language learning and teaching, with particular reference to Special Educational Needs affecting communication and language, such as developmental language disorders, learning disorders and sensory disabilities. A strength of the course is the acquisition of competences in the field of inclusive language education. It is a two-year course and on successful completion, graduates are awarded the “Laurea Magistrale” (second cycle degree certificate). Language Sciences and Cultural Studies for Special Needs is designed for candidates from different academic backgrounds and aims to provide a thorough grounding and advanced linguistic and cultural competencies in English and in a second foreign language (including Italian as an FL/L2), and research skills in the field of Language Sciences, in particular Educational linguistics. The course dedicates specific attention to aspects related to language learning and teaching, mainly as regards educational contexts which include learners with special needs, such as language impairments and disadvantages, learning disorders, or sensory disabilities.

This is a 30 (non-thesis) graduate semester hour program leading to a Master of Education in Special Education, emphasizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Program for those with a bachelor’s degree who have some experience working in special education settings as instructional aides, support staff, substitute teachers, or emergency-certified teachers. Required supervised field hours and full-semester student teaching may be earned within an eligible job setting.
