5 Sewing Degree Programs

Sewing is one of the most critical disciplines in fashion design. Our sewing video lessons cover everything from learning how to thread a sewing machine to learn how to sew one of the most challenging materials of all, leather.

This beginning course focuses on sewing machine techniques using woven fabrics. Decision-making, such as threading, tension adjustments, and other methods of machine troubleshooting will be emphasized. Additional equipment and supplies critical to the sewing process will be demonstrated. Students will also have a brief introduction to sergers and industrial sewing machines. Students will be sewing a simple garment to better understand basic sewing construction techniques.

Have you ever considered a job as a fashion or textiles machinist, sewing fashion garments through to industrial textiles? This course is being delivered in response to increased industry demand for machining skills and will give you entry level sewing skills working on industrial sewing machinery.

This highly-specialist Hand Embroidery BA (Hons) course is taught at the prestigious Royal School of Needlework (RSN), based at Hampton Court Palace. The average intake is just 20 students per year, enabling a high level of student / tutor contact time. All students have the unique opportunity to access and engage with the RSN's extensive collection of historic textiles and paper-based materials.

From learning to read and understand commercial patterns (including fit adjustments to match your body shape), to mastering cutting and sewing techniques, this course will give you the skills to create contemporary fashion garments at home.
