Explore Turku

Situated in southwest Finland and dating back to the 13th century, Turku is considered Finland’s oldest city. Although the capital was eventually moved to Helsinki, today, Turku is still one of Finland’s main business and cultural centers.

Interesting facts—Turku was designated the European Capital of Culture in 2011 and the official Christmas City of Finland in 1996.

It’s no wonder visitors travel from around the world to see Turku and get a unique insight into the Finnish way of life. Turku is also home to the second largest university in Finland, the University of Turku, which draws in students from all over Finland, Europe, and the rest of the world. That makes studying abroad in Turku a great option for students who are looking for a unique study abroad experience.

There’s certainly plenty to see, including the Turku Castle, Moomin World, and the Turku Cathedral. Or, just take a relaxing stroll through one of the many cobbled riverside streets and enjoy the Finnish pace of life while also exploring all the restaurants, cafes, galleries, and sights the city has to offer.

As a student, you will likely be granted generous discounts on entrance to museums and attractions, especially since Turku is a popular destination or students.
