Toronto was first populated by native peoples including the Wynadot and Iroquois. The French were the first European settlers to arrive, and they built a fort to claim their territory. In the late 18th century, Toronto switched hands and became an English trading post called the ’Town of York.’ The post was damaged in the War of 1812, but recovered and was made a city – renamed Toronto – in 1834.

This city is Canada’s business and economic capital and one of the top financial centers in the world making it a top destination for students wanting to come to study finance-related programs in Toronto.
