Students who want to study in Madrid will enjoy the contrast of the laid back lifestyle during the day and energetic, vibrant nightlife; some of the hottest clubs in Spain being in Madrid, such as Teatro Barcelo and La Nuit. Spanish universities promote an open environment and an array of activities and opportunities for students to immerse themselves in the rich Spanish language and culture.
The city of Madrid is divided into 21 districts; further divided into smaller 'barrios'. It has a well developed public transportation system and is one of the more touristy and expensive cities in Spain. However, for students studying in Madrid, a lot of attractions (such as museums), as well as public transport, offer specific student discounts.
Things to See When Studying in Madrid
Gran Via: Walk along the Gran Via to experience the city's top tourist attractions including shops, bars and even a Casino Line. The Grand Via stretches for more than a kilometer and includes some of the city's best architecture including the Telefónica building and the Palacio de la Prensa that is a shop in old cinemas still showing movies to this day.
Museums & Galleries: Students studying in Madrid will love the city's great selection of big museums and galleries. On the Paseo del Orado, is Madrid's art triangle which is a must see and includes famous museums like the Museo del Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza that make up the triangle.
Parks: With the pleasant weather all year round, students studying in Madrid will enjoy taking walks around the city's parks. The biggest park in Madrid is Casa de campo which is five times bigger than New York's central park and 1,700 hectares of land. The park has a large lake, a funfair, the Madrid Zoo, a youth hostel and multiple concerts or events which is great place to relax or meet up with friends.
Plaza Mayor: An important landmark that is a must see is the Plaza Mayor which exhibits the equestrian statue of Felipe III. Sit in the square while sipping a cup of 'cafe con leche' while indulging in some people watching.
