Roughly 2 million people live in Brisbane – a number that is rapidly growing, due in part to the high number of students who study in Brisbane each year. Brisbane, however, has not always been the cosmopolitan, New World City it is today. The city arose in the 1820s when a penal colony relocated 25 kilometers inland from Moreton Bay at Brisbane’s current location between the bay and the Great Dividing Range. When the state of Queensland – today the 3rd most populated and 2nd largest state in Australia – broke away from New South Wales in 1859, Brisbane was named its capital.

Fast forward more than a century and Brisbane is a sleepy country town on the edge of the Outback. This changed in the 1990s when Brisbane’s economy persevered through rough financial times and brought the city to Australia’s forefront - one reason why it's become such a popular study destination.

Brisbane offers students a number of exciting education opportunities, including:

Today Brisbane has one of the fastest growing economies not only in Queensland but also in Australia with key sectors, as well as education programmes in the following categories:

Attractions in Brisbane include the koala sanctuary and an impressive man-made lagoon in the center of the city. To the west of Brisbane is the Scenic Rim and Country Valley regions with their rustic charm and diverse landscape.
