The Master in Sacred Art aims at offering theoretical and practical training in the field of sacred and religious art. This sector, deeply rooted in Italian culture and tradition constitutes a significant percentage of the Italian artistic heritage. The three specializations to choose from for the Master are Painting, Sculpture, and Goldsmithing.

The study of sculpture is ever-expanding and includes object-making, public art and social practices, site and space, performance, sound, film and video. Rather than only considering the specific manifestations of sculpture, we prefer to think of it as a methodology from which to progress the production of art.

SCAD sculpture students create bold, innovative works in one of the finest studios in American higher education, designed by Renzo Piano. The Sacred Art School, a training area of the Foundation for Contemporary Sacred Art, offers a Summer School in painting and drawing, sculpture and drawing and jewelry in the city of Florence. During the month of July, the Sacred Art School organizes intensive courses in goldsmithing, painting and drawing and sculpture and drawing lasting one month. Art tours and visits are included in the city of Florence as part of the curricular activities.

The art of making solid objects. Sculpture comes from combining plasticity with technique. It is an art linked to space and the tangible expression of the sculptor’s vision of the world. Contemporary and classical studies, analysis of aesthetic canons, research into the fine balance between form and substance: these are the technical and theoretical pillars of the course which support students in their first step towards a future as contemporary artists.

The Master in Fine Arts is the natural continuation of the Bachelor of Arts in Painting and Visual Arts and Sculpture and Installations. Nevertheless, it may also be attended by students who come from other educational backgrounds and who wish to complete their studies by studying contemporary art.

The Sacred Art School, training area of the Foundation for Contemporary Sacred Art, provides instruction in painting, sculpture and jewelry for students wishing to pursue careers as professional artists. Our three-year courses constitute our main educational offer; in fact, they offer a solid curriculum that provides each student with all the tools to learn how to become a well-rounded artist and pursue an artistic career.

Graduates are familiar with the means of expression and the opportunities of sculpture, as well as its materials and techniques. They are visual artists who possess the technical, professional, aesthetic and social science knowledge based on modern and classical foundations in BSc + MSc In Sculpture. They are capable of analysing the general and individual social needs in their field.

In the Sculpture/Installation program, you will experiment with creating three-dimensional sculpture and installation work. You will learn the skills to create installations – works of art designed for public spaces. You will use the fabrication studios to explore hands-on and digital creation. The program includes studio courses that develop your imagination, critical and technical knowledge. You will also explore the creation and meaning of objects in courses such as contemporary practice and theory. This combination of practice and theory will make you ready to develop your creative research and exhibit your own projects. Your learning will include openness to many diverse cultural perspectives. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

The MFA provides an immersive education in the development of professional practice as an artist. As an MFA graduate, you will produce a final exhibition, the quality of which will demonstrate that you have developed the knowledge and skills necessary to survive and thrive as a practising artist.

Studying abroad helps you develop new perspectives on who you are as an artist, and to see your art and yourself through new eyes. BCA offers a transformative experience for the emerging artist, stripping away the noise, clutter and distraction of everyday urban life to allow for a greater exploration of creativity. Students normally take 5 courses during the semester, each carrying 3 credits. Each students is given a large studio space, for which they have 24/7 access to during the course of the programme.
