The Abish-Frenkel Excellence in Biomedical Research Program, Molecular Drivers of Disease

The Hebrew University's Faculty of Medicine is pleased to launch a new program that aims to train the next generation of scientific leaders, who will be at the forefront of biomedical research in Israel and the world. Participants will complete a doctorate in biomedical sciences in a direct-track program and will receive the highest-level training for integration in academic research or in the medical industry.

ELIGIBILITY: Excellent students that obtain a Bachelor's degree in life sciences, medicine, or related fields such as chemistry, computer science, engineering, or physics from recognized academic institutions. Admission to the doctorate track will be based on bachelor degree grades and a personal interview, which includes reading an article and presenting a research proposal.

The Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholars Program

The Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholars Program attracts high-achieving postdoctoral scholars from premier universities in the United States and Canada to do research at one of seven Israeli universities. Once they complete their research, many Zuckerman postdocs are expected to accept faculty positions at top North American universities, weaving a network of academic collaboration and goodwill that will greatly benefit US-Israeli scientific cooperation. Five postdoctoral scholarships will be given out per participating university.

ELIGIBILITY: Postdoctoral candidates must be citizens of the United States or Canada or have a documented status that allows them to remain permanently in the US. Candidates must hold a PhD degree from a leading American or Canadian university, or if still studying for a PhD, must submit their PhD thesis before October 1, 2023. Postdoctoral candidates must obtain consent from a potential hosting supervisor at the Israeli university/universities to which they are applying.

AWARD: Postdoctoral scholars receive a scholarship of $63,000 per academic year for up to two years. Of this amount, $60,000 is provided by the Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program ($8,400 for research and travel to professional conferences plus $51,600 for living expenses [$4,300 per month]). An additional $3,000 in research funds is directed to scholars through their supervisors at their Israeli universities.

American Jewish League for Israel

Since 1957, the American Jewish League for Israel has supported a progressive, strong, economically viable State of Israel. Their mission is to foster Jewish spiritual and cultural values through the experience of living and studying in Israel and, at the same time, strengthen the ties that bind Jews in the United States to Jews in Israel. Any person, regardless of background or faith, is encouraged to apply, and 5-6 scholars will be selected each year.

Erasmus+ Programs

Erasmus+ is the EU education and training program which enables students to study abroad. Through Erasmus+, university students have a chance to go to other European universities to study, thus contributing to their qualifications, experience, and understanding of different environments and cultures.

ELIGIBILITY: These scholarships are open to students who are at least in their second year of higher education. Students home institution and the exchange institution must have an inter-institutional agreement for students to benefit from Erasmus+.
