Meet Ismael Guereca Valdivia, the first winner of the Go Global MBA Scholarship!

Ismael Guereca Valdivia is the winner of the Go Global MBA scholarship 2022 by educations.com.

Ismael has been awarded $7,000 towards his tuition for a double degree in Master’s in Chemical Engineering and MBA, through the Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Ismael’s Background

Born and raised in Jalisco, Mexico, Ismael hopes to use his graduate degree in Chemical Engineering and Business Administration to establish a biotechnology start-up in Mexico. He was drawn to the United States for its cultural diversity as well as research, training, and opportunity to learn through internships at the best engineering university in the world - MIT. 

Ismael is passionate about biotechnology because it seeks to use living organisms or systems to generate products or processes. During his previous studies, he focused on the area of bioprocess engineering and learned to investigate how to develop industrial processes using living systems such as living cells to generate high-value products. 

How Ismael chose his country of study

Studying in the United States will undoubtedly provide Ismael with the opportunity to immerse himself in a world-class education. At MIT, Ismael will further develop his technical skills in the field of Chemical Engineering while simultaneously studying for his MBA. This possibility was crucial in choosing his country of study, as both technical knowledge and business expertise are required to achieve his future goals. 

How Ismael plans to become a globally-minded leader

Ismael confidently believes that diversity of people and thought leads to better problem-solving. As most problems in today’s world are complex, they need to be solved through the lens of a global mindset. Mexico produces great quantities of waste as a significant agro-industrial producer that could be reused, which will contribute to a sustainable future.

Ismael hopes to establish a company to tackle this issue by focusing on developing bioprocesses that transform agro-industrial wastes into high-value products.
