The Master of Education (MEd), a 30 credit hour program, has two specializations: Educational Leadership (EL) and Integrated Curriculum and Instruction (ICI).

In 2018 we will offer an international Master’s course in Christian Education which will fully focus on the backgrounds and practices of education inspired and informed by the Christian faith.

The program aims to train competent graduates with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in religious studies, possessing modern methods of religious science, capable of applying the acquired scientific knowledge in practical reality.

Criswell’s Education program affords students the opportunity to become teachers who are trained with a Christian-worldview to impact the lives and families of children.

The 13-month M.A. in Holistic Education program provides a “fifth year” of advanced study leading to licensure for those who have completed a baccalaureate degree from the Templar School of Education. This M.A. cannot be taken as a stand-alone program. During the local public or Christian school year, candidates serve an internship that begins on the first-day teachers return to the classroom and continues through the teachers’ final day. Interns complete base placements in their primary licensure area with two alternative placements in the other areas of licensure, other grade levels, and in public and Christian schools in various combinations. Successful completion of the program leads to licensure from the Tennessee State Board of Education; certification by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI); and a Master of Arts degree from Johnson University.

The Religion department's undergraduate major is built to be as flexible as possible so that students may pursue individual interests and interdisciplinary goals. The major provides students with the opportunity to explore mainline religious traditions and marginal/repressed religious currents within multicultural and transnational contexts. Students will gain religious literacy while studying the historical, social, cultural, psychological, philosophical, and cognitive dynamics of religion and religious experience.

With a dual focus on Jewish thought and education, students examine and analyze a number of canonical Jewish texts and engage in critical thought and discussion about Jewish heritage, ethos and values, as well as learn effective methods of teaching, theories of education, and the methodology of classroom management.
