The study program investigates the mechanisms of immune responses at the cellular and molecular level, under normal and pathological conditions. The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Genetics and the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

The study program investigates the mechanisms of interaction of chemical, physical and biological factors of the living and the working environments of the organism. It integrates methodological approaches especially in the area of toxicology, molecular biology, and immunology. It is the theoretical basis for preventive medicine fields, ie. hygiene, and epidemiology.

Postgraduate study in Physiology and Pathophysiology is focused on the investigation of functions of organs and organ systems during responses and adaptations to changes in the external and internal environments in health and disease. The transition from studies of indirect manifestations of certain functions to their own functional and regulatory mechanisms at the cellular and molecular levels predominates. The acquired knowledge is fundamental for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human diseases. Study program without specialization.

The doctoral study program "Preventive medicine and epidemiology" is using the principles of evidence-based medicine to assess the impact of various factors (physical, chemical, environmental, biological) on human health at the individual as well as the population level in order to identify possible approaches for prevention. The program integrates knowledge and approaches originating from the fields of toxicology, molecular biology, immunology including clinically-oriented disciplines. The program represents a theoretical basis for preventive disciplines in medicine, e.g. public health, epidemiology, and biostatistics. The program is carried out without any specialization.

PhD in Fire Protection and Safety study in the Safety and Fire Protection study program provides the highest level of higher education for safety and fire protection. It is intended for specially gifted individuals oriented to development and research, including applied research. The study is based on the multidisciplinarity of the field of science and its complexity and therefore has an expanding and deepening character, which will not only master the scientific principles, methods and tools of a particular doctoral student, but also understand the context in the broad context of science and relations to other natural, technical and social sciences.

Immunology is a dynamically evolving discipline integrating the knowledge of molecular and cell biology, physiology, histology, and functional morphology (in the context of evolution and ontogenesis) relevant to the immune system, a self-defense unit composed of functionally interacting molecules, cells, and tissues involved in immune responses. Immunology outputs show a major impact in a multitude of biomedical fields today. Topics such as transplantation, allergy, immune deficiency, autoimmunity, immunosuppression, immunotherapy, or anti-tumor immunity are typical areas of interest to immunologists. Immunology covers all levels of biological knowledge from molecules (cytokines, immunoglobulins, receptors, signaling molecules), cells (a wide array of immunocompetent cells), whole organisms (having transgenic animal models in use and interaction with the immune system is being investigated), and communities (evolution of immune mechanisms, e.g. frequencies of different alleles regulating the immune response within a population). Clinical immunology is an important emancipated immunology specialization, for which the human immune system is the object of studies, and understanding the mechanism of its action leads to the development of potential therapeutic applications. Typically, a four-year postgraduate's study of immunology deepens the master's education having more specialized lectures and mainly by intensive scientific education by the supervisor. Courses and lectures are provided by specialists from the Faculty of Science and Faculties of Medicine of Charles University and, to a great extent, experts from the institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (mainly IMG and IM). Students are conducting doctoral theses, in these institutions mainly, but also in hospitals, clinical laboratories, or private companies - biotechnology development centers. Students are repeatedly reporting the progress of their doctoral theses at conferences, as of a poster or an oral presentation. For their projects, students can receive support through various grant calls. They learn about the international dimension of scientific cooperation in foreign laboratories. The output of scientific activities associated with the elaboration of doctoral theses is numerous posters and presentations at international conferences and publications in international impacted journals. The key activity of the Immunology program guarantor, as well as the immunologists at the Faculty of Science, is student project supervision, stimulation of their independent experimental work, and critical evaluation of the primary literature. In order to achieve that, we provide the course Advances in Immunology (in English). The program is carried out without any specialization.

The purpose of the study program is to provide the students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in various areas of molecular and cell biology, genetics, and virology, as well as to familiarize them with modern methodical and technical approaches utilized in these scientific fields and with the possibilities of such approaches for problem-solving in current biological and biomedical science (including interdisciplinary research). The main scope of the program can be characterized as the study of biological processes at molecular and cell levels, focusing particularly on complex interactions between cells and environment or between various information macromolecules (DNA, RNA, proteins) and using the most modern approaches of molecular biology and bioinformatics. The program is carried out without any specialization.

Graduates of the Bachelor study programme, Security and Legal Studies, within the branch of study, Technology Safety for Persons and Property, will be a university-educated professional with general and specialised knowledge and skills needed in the theory and practical application appropriate for employment positions such as security managers for companies, organisations and the safety of employees in commercial enterprises.

Ph.D. students will be trained in he field of vaccine design including construction of vaccination antigens either wild type or chimeric based on protein, glycoprotein, or DNA/RNA; antigen modification for targeted induction of cytotoxic T cells, induction of tolerizing T cells, modification of allergen- or autoantigen-specific immune responses and induction of oral tolerance phenomenon; antigen or DNA/RNA modification for corpuscular vaccine formulation, utilizing various route of administration (systemic and mucosal) and evaluation of either systemic or mucosal immune responses in humoral and cellular arms as well as relevant intracellular signalling pathways.

Applicants will be admitted to the study Masters in HSE Professional program in full-time study at the master's follow-up study. There is no exam in the admission procedure. Graduates of bachelor study programs of similar specialization may be admitted to study.
