Learn to communicate information, entertainment, and ideas through film and television. Plan and produce a variety of genres in film and television.

Upon successful completion of Associate in Science in Mt. San Antonio College’s Film, Television, and Electronic Media for Transfer degree requirements, the student will have demonstrated an understanding of coursework and foundational training in all stages of television and film production, including the historical, business and legal underpinnings of the industry; writing for the screen; visual and aural aesthetics; live and pre-recorded television and film production techniques; and post-production aesthetics and techniques.

The Higher Certificates (HC) courses at AFDA are 1-year NQF level 5 programs designed to lay a foundation of basic skills and learning to enter the creative economy at an assistant level, as well as enable further access to degree level education for the first year in the BA or BCom degrees at AFDA. The Higher Certificate in Film, Television and Entertainment Production focuses on basic technical and/or production skills important for the running of a film or television set.

Introduces students to key aesthetic aspects of film. Students study a variety of historical and contemporary examples of fiction and nonfiction films that illustrate the expressive possibilities of image and sound. Students learn to analyze, explain, and write about these formal elements.

The Associate in Science in Film, Television and Electronic Media for Transfer, also called the Film, Television & Electronic Media AS-T Degree, offers students a comprehensive lower division program that prepares them for entry-level jobs in film production companies, radio and television stations or multimedia businesses. It also enables them to transfer into a four-year program of study in film, television and electronic media. Students in this program will gain a critical understanding of mass media, as well as practical skills in writing, producing, directing and editing films, videos, radio programs and other multimedia content. Students earning this degree are well prepared for careers in motion picture production, radio and television broadcast and the electronic media.

Broadcast Television/Videography (BRTV) diploma program will quickly prepare you for media content creation in technical operation and production roles. An intensive, behind-the-scenes look at broadcasting will give you a solid grounding in video production skills and broadcast standards. This program is an excellent starting point for anyone who wants to work behind the scenes in television production and features a wide variety of courses, as well as field experience opportunities, empowering graduates for success in the broadcast industry.

Film is a universally recognized medium that has a profound impact on how we view the world and ourselves. Filmmaking is the most collaborative of art forms. It demands the cooperation and dedication of screenwriter, cinematographer, producer, director and editor working together in a complex, creative enterprise. Film and Television explores the theory, criticism and production of motion pictures. The Film and Television Department at Santa Barbara City College offers a wide variety of courses designed for film majors and interested non-majors who wish to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of film as part of their undergraduate education. Students are exposed to a vast array of films from the classic to the contemporary, including both American and international works.

The purpose of this qualification is to equip entry level persons in the advertising industry with the competence required to supply support services in an advertising environment. On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive a Certificate in Film & Television.

The Writing for Film and TV Diploma program is designed to replicate the process and environment of the film and television industry. Classes are styled after industry writing rooms and feature table-reads, on-set show-running and industry-standard editing software. You will learn how to pitch, write, produce and edit for all formats of film and television, including sitcoms, one-hour dramas, TV movies, feature films, new media, documentaries, broadcast news, commercials, PSA’s, and factual entertainment.

Our Writing for Film and TV Associate Diploma offers an intensive, behind-the-scenes education across all area of screenwriting. The program is designed to replicate the process and environment of the film and television industry. The online classrooms are styled after industry writing rooms with collaborative story sessions. You will learn how to pitch, write and produce for all formats of film and television, including sitcoms,one-hour dramas, feature films, new media, broadcast news, commercials, and PSAs, and factual entertainment.

The Acting for Film, TV and the Theatre program applies the Stanislavski Method (living truthfully under imaginary circumstances) to blend film and television acting with the critical foundations of stage technique. You will explore all artistic, technical and business areas of acting, through practical, hands-on training.
