9 Surgery Preparatory Programs

The Surgical Technology Program has been designed to train students to work with surgical teams as surgical technologists. This program covers all foundational competencies required to successfully understand the needs of surgical technologists in the surgical room and the material required for the certification exam. Begin your career in one of the fastest-growing fields in the area.

In this accredited program, you’ll learn to prepare operating equipment with the latest aseptic techniques, assist during surgeries, and safely care for surgical patients alongside surgeons and nurses. When you complete the program, you will qualify to take the National Certifying Examination for Surgical Technologists to become a certified surgical technologist (CST).

Pitt-Johnstown's 74-credit associate degree program is designed to give students the opportunity to develop both written and verbal communication skills, utilise critical and creative thinking skills, acquire organisational, leadership and administrative skills, as well as solve ethical dilemmas in real-world situations.

A founding fellow in OMFS-SA is an ACVS Diplomate who has obtained additional training and experience or has demonstrated expertise in OMFS, beyond surgery residency training and devotes a major portion of their professional effort prevention diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of OMFS-SA patients.

An ACOS/AOA accredited surgical residency program aims to prepare the resident to function as a qualified practitioner of surgery at the advanced level of performance expected of a board-certified specialist.

An ACVS Founding Fellow or Fellow in JRS should have a high level of expertise in the surgical management of joint injuries and other joint pathology through joint replacement. The JRS fellow must be proficient in the knowledge of the benefits and risks associated with a multidisciplinary approach that includes surgical treatment.

The Surgical Technology and Central Sterile Processing Associate degree program is designed to prepare students for careers in the Surgical Services Department as integral professional operating room (OR) team members who provide surgical care to patients during perioperative case management.

A Fellow or Founding Fellow, Surgical Oncology is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) who has obtained additional training and experience in the multidisciplinary approach to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of cancer patients, and who devotes a major portion of his or her professional effort toward these activities and to cancer research.
