This course will be of interest to those with an interest in working with children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities in a school or educational setting and/or who wish to develop their skills and knowledge to a higher level to develop career opportunities or progress to an undergraduate degree. This foundation degree course is run in conjunction with Bishop Grosseteste University.

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning; delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.

0% of children and young people (5-18 years of age) in the U.K have a clinically diagnosed mental health problem. However, 70% who experience mental health problems do not receive the support they require. The purpose of this qualification is to increase your knowledge and awareness of children and young people’s mental health.

This programme is ideal for students working at Entry Level who require a personalised approach, designed to meet their individual needs.

Throughout this qualification, you will gain an understanding of the spectrum of autistic disorders and how they can affect people in a variety of ways, as well as exploring the importance of using a person-centred approach to provide support.

The Specialist Support for Teaching & Learning in Schools (QCF) – Level 3 Course is available to learners 16+ who are working within a school, particularly in the role of a Teaching Assistant, Classroom Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
