94 Physics Preparatory Programs

This degree is intended to prepare students to transfer to Washington’s public four-year colleges and universities and many private colleges with junior standing and the majority of the prerequisites for selected science, mathematics, and engineering majors completed. This degree partially fulfills the general education requirements as explained in the Associate of Arts, Direct Transfer Agreement, AA-DTA degree. This degree does not guarantee admission into the major.

The Associate of Science Degree is designed for students who plan to transfer to specific science majors at four-year colleges or universities. Students pursuing this degree are required to select a field of specialization from an approved list and will be assigned a TCC advisor to understand specialization requirements. Physics is a field of specialization at TCC. You can prepare for a future career in astronomy or physics. TCC offers courses that cover the first two years of a typical four-year college astronomy or physics program. Students will earn an Associate of Science Track 2 (AS-T Track 2) degree to enter into a four-year college or university.

The Associate in Arts Degree in Physics prepares students for further study in physics or related physical science disciplines. It also provides a background in physics that includes skills appropriate for entry-level employment in science-related industries or laboratories.

An emphasis on Natural Sciences provides the student with an understanding of living and non-living systems and promotes an appreciation of the methodologies and tools of science. Students may select courses that focus on a specific major and then select complementary courses to strengthen their selected focus or they may select courses that strengthen and broaden their overall understanding of the Natural Sciences.

Physics provides a foundation for all other sciences. The skills and knowledge gained in physics are also helpful in several non-science-related disciplines such as business and social work. As a career, physicists put their theoretical knowledge of science to practical use in many high-tech industries, such as electronics, robotics, communication, aerospace technology, and medicine. There's no limit to what you can do with a solid foundation in physics!

The Physics Transfer Degree is designed to give the student the typical lower division course work for physics.

The Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer (AS-T in Physics) is designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU institution for students who plan to transfer and complete a CSU major or baccalaureate degree in Physics. The Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer (AS-T in Physics) provides a foundation in physics and mathematics for students planning to transfer into a baccalaureate program in physics or physics education. Successful completion of the program guarantees the student acceptance to a local California State University to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Physics or a related field.

The A.S. degree in Physics is designed to prepare students for transfer to baccalaureate institutions as Physics or other science majors. Physics is also an accepted pre-medical field of study.

The Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer degree (AS-T in Physics) is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in Physics at a CSU campus. On completion of the program, the student will have gained proficiency in all of the main areas of classical physics and will have been exposed to some of the more modern concepts of physics, including special relativity, atomic and nuclear physics.

The CAS PY 105/106 course sequence satisfies premedical requirements. CAS PY 106 covers some of the basic principles underlying the physics of everyday life, including electricity and magnetism, direct-current circuits, waves, optics, and modern physics. Students must register for three sections: lecture, discussion, and a laboratory.

An Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer (AS-T) from Skyline College is intended for students who are interested in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in Physics, or similar majors.

Physics is the study of how nature works. Processes within the entire universe, including your body, are explained with the principles of Physics. Completion of the Physics: Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower-division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC). Some UC's require additional coursework, please meet with a counselor for additional information. The Physics program map below includes all of your major coursework and recommended general education courses by term that is needed to fulfill your degree and transfer requirements.

CAS PY 105 course covers some of the basic principles underlying the physics of everyday life, including forces and motion, momentum and energy, harmonic motion, rotation, and heat and thermodynamics.

Calculus-based introduction to basic principles of physics, emphasizing Newtonian mechanics, conservation laws, and thermodynamics. For science majors and engineers, and for premedical students who seek a more analytical course than CAS PY 105/106. Interactive, student-centered lectures and laboratory. Students must register for two sections: lecture and a laboratory.

Develop the knowledge and skills needed to explore the smallest and largest scales of the Universe. You’ll learn to describe, analyse, test and explain phenomena in the physical world objectively and quantitatively, using appropriate mathematical tools and experimental methods. Develop your understanding of core physics concepts and processes.

This course is designed to introduce students to the key aspects of science (biology, chemistry and physics). It will equip students with vital knowledge and skills to enable them to flourish academically and personally.
