8 Music Preparatory Programs in Canada

The two-year Music Industry Arts Ontario College Diploma program prepares you to start your music industry career. This program is delivered in a condensed format of over three consecutive 14-week terms over 12 months. You learn how to work as an audio professional, performing artist, business professional, or entrepreneur in the music industry.

Our program has been preparing students for the commercial music and entertainment industry for over 30 years, guided by the principle that the study and practice of contemporary music is the best way to prepare for a successful and rewarding career. It’s one of the only programs in Canada based on the world-renowned Berklee College of Music curriculum.

The Music Diploma (Classical) Program provides a rich introduction to music in an environment that nurtures the artistic and creative potential of our music students. The program integrates theoretical, historical and performance studies, offering concentrations in piano, voice, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and composition.

Students will be able to participate in the Music and Worship Arts co-curricular opportunities such as Music Appreciation, the Vinyl Vault, and the SongSmith Society. These opportunities will assist the student’s pursuit of musicianship. Students will be interacting with and studying with present and like-minded music and worship arts students, as there will be similar requirements of music lessons, music lessons practice, music ensemble playing, etc.

Students will study the basic written aspects of musical language, including notation, intervals, major and minor scales, basic chord structures, rhythm, and basic musical terms. They will be exposed to works by innovative artists from a variety of genres, contexts, time periods, and cultures. The students will cultivate an understanding of the process of music and its effect on connectedness with others.

The Conducting in Music Certificate program is set up so you can continue work while earning your credential. In the program, most classes will occur in the evening over an eight-month period, with training in areas including advanced conducting, learning the different styles and techniques and improving your skill at analyzing scores for rehearsals and performance.

Students will find that their excellent classroom instruction will be enhanced by multiple opportunities to lead worship throughout their program. Along with our remarkable teaching faculty we are thrilled to bring in several guest artists throughout the year to enhance your learning. With 45 Bible & Theology credits you will build a strong biblical foundation to base your career on.
