NLC's Associate of Arts Degree (Health Studies) prepares students for entry into health-related degree programs, with an emphasis on the University of Northern British Columbia's Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program. The two-year Associate Degree (Health Studies) provides broad coverage across the Arts and Sciences while introducing students to nursing as a career and meeting UNBC's core prerequisite requirements in the social sciences, English, Indigenous studies, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, psychology, and statistics. Students who complete NLC's Associate of Arts Degree (Health Studies) with UNBC's grade requirements have an optimal transfer pathway into the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (Please see the NBNP webpage for more information) and will be included among NLC students who have first claim to a designated number of seats each year. The partnership between NLC and UNBC enables prospective Registered Nurses to complete their post-secondary education in the north, for employment in the north.

Our innovative program, Diploma in Agricultural Sustainability, bridges agricultural and environmental sciences. As well, it merges the concerns of both the public and producers. Consumers want to know where and how their food is grown. Farmers and ranchers care about conservation and productivity.

This program provides students with the laboratory skills, technical knowledge, fundamental understanding, and employability skills for careers in the Biotechnology and Life Science industries. Students will experience an integrated curriculum and applied learning environment that focuses on scenarios relevant to current innovations in the growing fields of Biotechnology and Life Sciences. 

If you’re interested in an environmental career, our Diploma in Environmental Sciences is perfect to start. Lakeland offers flexibility in teaching in-demand skills. Start with hands-on experience in class and in the field. You’ll learn about an extensive range of environmental sciences courses.

The Pre-Health Sciences Certificate introduces students to diverse career options available in the health field. Students who have an interest in health care but are uncertain about career direction have an opportunity to explore fundamental concepts related to health.

The General Arts and Science one-year certificate at George Brown College is designed for students who wish to develop the skills and competencies required in college, university, and the workplace. As a student in this program, you will explore subjects within humanities, social sciences, and science and mathematics; develop skills in critical thinking, oral and written communications, and career development; and acquire knowledge and explore ideas in a range of disciplines to meet your needs and interests. Students who meet GPA requirements may transfer into the two-year diploma program, which has established pathways to a number of universities.

Spend a year putting theory into practice and earn a General Agricultural Certificate. Focus on either crop or livestock production. On the crops side, you'll learn practical field skills like identifying weeds and plants and pest problems. On the livestock side, you'll gain basic production skills.

The Diploma in Animal Science Technology Diploma: Dairy Science Major has activities ranging from practical herd management to implementing new technologies. You’ll graduate armed with the knowledge and tools to return to the farm or to make your mark in another area of the dairy sector.

The Diploma in Animal Science Technology Diploma: Beef Science Major will make you go beyond the classroom and into the real world, from pasture to plate. You’ll study commercial and purebred cow/calf operations as well as feedlots.  And, you’ll go through the complete production cycle.
