This action-oriented course makes the most of the short-term study abroad environment by focusing on the situations that students encounter while in Japan.

The Major of Vision Sciences provides a level of education not found elsewhere in Japan, having students study the principles of clinical medicine pertaining to visual functions and their disorders, and placing a focus on basic research in the visual sciences field. Graduates that have acquired nationally-recognized orthoptist qualifications can expect to work at healthcare institutions nationwide.

In this class, you are going to acquire the reading and writing competence required to study in Japan in two years. In the first year, you are going to do reading exercises through short stories and sentences so that your way of speaking Japanese sounds natural. This course is also designed to allow you to completely understand Japanese sentences.

There are no language prerequisites, though: we offer beginner-level courses all the way through to advanced. You will get the chance to participate in a wide range of classroom activities, including practice with a Japanese student and sitting in on a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Through this, you will find that your ability to utilize Japanese on a day-to-day basis in Hikone will increase exponentially.

China has rapidly transformed itself from being “the factory of the world” to “the market of the world”, and is regarded as one of the most significant overseas locations. To secure human resources for these purposes, personnel with not only the ability to communicate in English but also in Chinese are constantly in demand. As China increases its presence on the world stage, it is an urgent task for Japan to engage with China and learn more about the country.

In the summer of 2019, 12 students from Fukuoka Prefectural University visited the historical city of Bath, one of the United Kingdom's most beautiful cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While there, they experienced the British way of life by doing a homestay, participated in English language classes at Bath College, and explored other world-famous places of cultural significance such as Stonehenge and Oxford. Our students prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime experience by attending a special orientation course prior to departure. Like the program itself, this course is accredited and focuses on "survival English," critical thinking, and the many cultural differences between Japan and the UK.
